AMP Re-visited

I have previously written about Google's Accelerated Mobile Pages, (AMP.) This project started in 2015 with Google working with some large internet publishers, namely newspapers. The goal is to provide a faster user experience via smartphones and keeping the responsive look and feel.

There has been some recent improvements. I started earlier this year using a Wordpress plug-in from Automatic, titled "AMP." This worked fairly well but had one drawback, it did not work for "pages." It only worked on "posts."

Last month I found another plug-in that worked for both "posts" and "pages." I tried it on one of my web-sites and it seemed to work OK. However, it had problems passing the Google validation test. The developers have worked very hard on this and the latest version works great. It is titled "Accelerated Mobile Pages."

During the course of developing this new plug-in, the developers decided not to re-invent the wheel. So, they are now using the AMP plug-in as the root and their plug-in adds a very nice user presentation including social media interface. I now have most of my two web-sites indexed into Google's AMP index.

As an aside, Google is now running two indexes. One for normal web-sites and one for AMP based sites. Actually, it is probably still one index with two categories. However, in webmaster tools it looks like two indexes.

Note the /amp following the page address. This identifies the page/post as an amp item.
