TRANSFER OF HOSTING

Back up all of your information before you transfer. You'll need it.

Thanks for that advice. Very wise

Thanks Shawn I have done this many times before but it has been awhile and I want to make sure. Appreciate you spending the time.

Anytime, I learn something every time I try to help someone. :)

I think you can do an export from host gaor and then create a new site here and do a import. But I am not 100% sure, but you can try that, its no harm.

how to transfer hosting from hostgator to wa

Domain Transfer is not the issue, Main thing is to transfer the whole data??

Here is a training video I put together

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-transfer-domain-name-to-wa

Thanks again Tommy
Does the whole site transfer over as well.I have a site that's 5months old with 20 pages.I don't want to lose it

you would need to transfer that with a FTP program or put in a ticket in the website & hosting tab and ask them to help you with that. this video is just to transfer the domain name only.

If you have a website on it already you will need to transfer that also. Probably with FileZilla thru FTP

Thanks Tommy but how do I do That

You have to change the DNS from hostgator to WA. Here is a tutorial: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/wa-hosting-setting-up-your-domain-dns

I have now had 390 new users added to my site in 24 hours. Can anyone help,How do I stop them?

Thanks to all of you for your help

Delete them all, and shut off your "anyone can register" as Welshy said.
Most if not all of these are either spam or attempts to hack into your site.:)

I see you got help below--I was going to suggest you PM Welshy as he seems to be THE MAN at this type of thing and I see he chimed in :)

Your site has probably been targeted by an SEO company, perhaps using a bot. I had that happen and my forum site was filled daily with spam of all sorts including porn. When I went through the source code, I saw it came from an SEO company called "SEO Profiler." I had to threaten them to get them to stop. I suggest you use free CAPTCHA software. Do a search for "Free Captcha Software" if you want to try that. Very, Very annoying, isn't it. Good luck.

same as my site i got users but not too many like you. i don't understand as well, i also waiting for the right answer

Hi Salem,

You are so right, i had received some of the comment from SEO optimization and let me know how to optimize the blog, but when i click on the link provided then open in made money online " scrap" push a button kind of things. i never reply or prove since they are talking strange not to the topic in my site. I deleted them all once i see it in the comment section.

Everyone, get rid of these, truly it is not a good sign,

Best wishes

Vo

I thought captcha is included in WP? Mine was.

That's not good, under settings/general you can turn off "anyone can register" http://take.ms/wMasV
I would submit a support ticket and let support know about this too.

Thank you Welshy,

I went ahead and turn off the option. I was thinking it was good to have many people to register on site. so how is this bad for your site? could you PM me on this if possible?
Thank you

I'm not sure if it's bad, but 95% of users that will be registering are likely spam users. Again I'm not sure but if the user has an option to upload via the profile, maybe they could upload and execute some PHP.
Either way I see NO benefit in letting people register or having this option on, if you want to have some post then just create a new user for them.

I should add I could be totally wrong and maybe it's ok.

I brought a website and I need to import the theme through the wordpress cpanel. Can anyone help please .Where is cpanel and how do I access it?

It is better to communicate with the registrar that you have bought them and inform them.

Hi Alan.

Is your website you bought, in a .zip file?

If so, you can go to:

...Appearance -> Themes - then click on Add New.

...Then under where it says "Install Themes" click on the "Upload" link.

...Then click on the Choose File button, and select the .zip file from your computer.

...Once uploaded, click on the Install Now button.

I hope this helps?

All the best, Mark

(sorry should have said - you don't have CPanel here - you can use FTP eg FileZilla to upload files too, but if it's just for installing a theme - then the above steps should help you).

Hi Adam thanks for your help.
I've tried all you said but the zip file contains all the site info and not the theme by its self, so I cannot download the theme alone. It look as if I will have to host it outside WA.I can go to Filezilla but where do I go in there

Hi - FileZilla is just an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) tool, to let you upload your files to the web server.

Welshy has some training on using it here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/ftp-filezilla-connecting-to-domain-via-ftp

I hope that helps?

All the best, Mark

Thanks Adam ,I'II give it a go

Is a blog the same as a post.Do I put a blog on my website as a post or is it seperate

Good stuff

I see have received your answer---Great !!!

As I understand it, your website is a blog and the content you write is a post. A page is static and is part of your menu: about me, helpful whatnots, etc. I hope that was helpful. All the best to you.

Many Thanks

A blog roll is made up of a series of Posts. You don't have to call them a blog and use them a a diary. You can add Categories to Posts, such as News and Reviews and then display them in sets by adding Categories to a Menu, in Appearance > Menus, rather than adding Pages to the Menu for example. Rich.

Thanks Rich.
It always confuses me.So if I'm adding posts to my website I'm creating a blog. And then those blogs can be sent to,Facebook ect.
