Embedding Youtube Videos on your site, Smart Tactic or Disingenious?

This post isn't meant to bash anyone that already does this. I'm really just looking for advice. A couple weeks ago I saw a blog about embedding/sharing YouTube videos on your site. This was explained that it should be done as long as the subject matter is similar.

Another thing that was mentioned was that Google LOVES videos! I'm not sure if its YouTube videos or videos in general, but it does help a lot with indexing. Keep that in mind next time you write an article.

Anyway, while in the middle of writing an article, I attempted to embed a YouTube video (solved my video embedding issue from my "roadblock" blog by the way) about my subject matter.

I actually stopped writing my article to write this blog and gain some insight. Now, my niche is about air fryers, recipes and reviews. I went on YouTube to find a video about a particular air fryer but when I looked at it, there was a woman on there talking about her air fryer.

Would it be disingenuous of me to post her video about that air fryer on my website? Will people think that my website is hers? How would she feel about me posting her video on my site? That's what I really have an issue with, but I suppose if I add several videos of different people, it may not matter.

Perhaps I'll have an unlimited trove of air fryer videos to add on to my articles. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

In the long run, it could help her on YouTube when I start gaining more traffic but I felt a little iffy about it.

I will mention something about myself though. I used to post a lot of Instagram stories about my daily life and Eminem's new rap album just came out, I think it was last year. There was a lot of controversy surrounding his album and I made a video saying that I didn't understand why it was so controversial.

I basically said that if you think his most recent album is controversial, then you better not listen to his albums from the 90s because this is tame compared to back then. I made that video on Instagram and a friend of mine said they saw me on YouTube.

This confused me because I don't make YouTube videos. He showed me a video compilation of a bunch of people talking about Eminem's new rap album and low and behold, the video I made on Instagram was embedded in this YouTube video.

I wasn't upset at all. If anything, I was flattered that my video was shared on a different platform with millions of people.

Maybe I just answered my own question with this blog, but I needed to get it out.

What do you all think about sharing YouTube videos on your site?

I haven't tried adding videos to my website yet, but may in the future. Thanks for sharing with this post.

Very good question, thank you! I myself intend to add videos to my most recent post but it won't be a youtube.

It's a very good idea.
It can really be a booster.

Ingrid

Great idea to be honest.

Lily 😊

Great question... I don't know if there's a simple answer, but I agree with the other comment that you probably at least want to give credit to whoever created the video. And, doing that probably also gives you a chance to make it clear to your readers that there's no direct association between you and the person who made the video. You could say something like, "Check out this clip I found on YouTube demonstrating XYZ air fryer. I don't know her, but she made a good video..."

I'm not sure if you need to get permission from the video's creator before sharing, but my gut is that video would be treated the same way as photos, where there are different levels of license (public domain, free to use if credited, permission required, etc.). That said, I wonder if putting something on YouTube basically means that it is being put into the public domain unless otherwise stated, but I honestly don't know.

Anyway, sorry I don't have a definitive answer, but hopefully someone else here can clarify. I'm curious to find out too.

YouTube has something called creative commons which means the video is free to distribute if its in the description.

However, you have to be careful because it might not be the original video which did not allow creative commons enabled.

I think as long as they get credit for the video and you are clear that it’s not your creation, it should be fine. I would be flattered if a video I made wound up being shared.

I’m thinking of doing some of my own videos as well to boost traffic. As you say, Google loves video!

Hello, does google love only youtube videos? does it love our own too? many thanks!

Ooh, good question! Actually, videos of any kind work fine. Google changes thousands of lines of code all the time so people are always trying to guess how they are doing what they are doing, It has been shown that users like videos and so it definitely helps get a page ranked higher. Google is all about the user experience so if it's something that the readers of your page like, odds are that Google will like it as well.

Where I work we've had IT change some code so we can have the videos pop-out of the page instead of navigating away. I just realized as I added the video to my page that it doesn't work quite the same way here. I'm going to compare code at work and take some Html snippets that I can use on my site here. I'm not an expert in any of this and every day I learn something that I didn't know I know:)

Good Luck on your video,

Jim

Thank you for your help!

Kyle does say in the training about videos its always best to embed your OWN videos, which is why I always wonder about when people are sharing a ton of other people's videos. You don't want your visitors to go off to YouTube to check out this other person's videos, thus potentially buying from THEIR affiliate links.

He does say it's okay occasionally, but preference should be made for your own.

That said, you already give credit by embedding the video as it links to that YouTube channel. Plus if they don't want people to share it by embedding it, they can turn it off in YouTube creator studio.

Someone should NEVER take someone's video off Instagram and upload it. That's theft actually as it's your property not theirs.

Hello, does google love only youtube made videos? does it love any videos downloaded from our iphone or PC too? many thanks!

You can upload your videos to YouTube from your phone if you want and then use that. I'm uncertain about how Google views non-YouTube

Great thanks!!

Anytime. Hopefully it helped.

I generally just give credit to who made the video and hope that they enjoy that it is being shared. I'm not sure if this is the right way about going about it, though!
