Just completed Level 1 training for Online Entrepreneur Certification a few days ago!

I've been slow at this because I had to wrap up my taxes for my main business. And, despite already knowing quite a bit of the material with having been a web developer in years past, I decided to take an approach as I have recently with reading books. Read it completely. Find those nuggets of information hidden within that you didn't know.

And I found a few nuggets. Even just on the free training.

I hadn't heard about either of the Wordpress plugins that were being activated.. SEOPack or EWWW Image Optimizer.

Classic Editor

One of the bigger gems I found, somewhere along the line in the videos, was that I saw the plugin Classic Editor in the list of installed plugins. I noticed that it allowed you to use Wordpress 5.0 with the old editor, versus the new editor that uses the new block-based editor (Gutenberg).

When the Wordpress 5 update occurred last year, I was quite disappointed. It seemed to make it much more difficult to write an article and I stopped writing content for my blog in the midst of all the changes that were occurring in 2018.

I need to go through some tutorials on using the block-based editor, I'm willing to give it a good chance and I'm sure it may be useful to some degree, but I'm also the type of person to want to get into the code a bit and I had no problem with formatting things with the old editor.

At least this way, I've got the choice.

And this is why, just like a book.. I'm not going to skip any part of the training. I've learned that lesson over and over again.. making assumptions that you know things means you'll miss out on those gold nuggets lying within.

Quick Thoughts On Level 1 Training

I found the Level 1 training decent. It's a bit basic in some ways, but for totally new users to Wordpress or this whole idea of affiliate marketing, it does a great job of introducing everything without overwhelming you too quick. By the end, the new members have the satisfaction of creating a website of their very own and seeing it start to shape up.

I'm evaluating this training from the perspective of a new user. That's another reason I'm going through it completely. I like to be able to recommend products that I believe, with no uncertainty, will help my blog audience.. and I'd like to recommend Wealthy Affiliate. So going through the training completely helps me to get a good handle on how the training may benefit even someone that's never done any of this stuff before.

Evaluating From A New Member's Perspective

I've sold products to a niche hobby community for years. I take raw materials and assemble them into the final product. I then have to write instructions for how to use the product. So I've got to put myself in the perspective of a new user. If you don't, you make assumptions, and you don't write complete instructions or you create a product that's usage isn't understandable.

Essentially it's looking at things with a clean slate. I forget what I already know, and act as if it's totally new to me.

This is how you build good products. Understandable products. Instructions that are clear and won't lead to confusion or frustrated users.

So I'll be going through the rest of the training in the same way. If there's parts I already know or think I know, I'm still going to go through it in detail. Just in those few golden nuggets I mentioned above, it's proven to me that being thorough is the best way to approach this training.

Onward & Upward!

Time to attack some more of the training! I can already see that there will be a lot of new things that I don't have a good handle on and that's exciting. If I knew it all already, I'd be disappointed.

It's funny to me to think that for years I've tried learning SEO tactics and trying to piece all of this stuff together, and all the information certainly does exist *somewhere* out there. But you need to find good resources. You need to put it to practice. It needs to not be outdated information. And you need to take action.

Despite years of trying to improve search engine rankings, I never did understand the exact methodology around that & it's exciting to know that through this training I'll learn concepts I can apply to my other websites at the same time. I love when that happens

I like that with WA everything's in one place, you can ask members for recommendations, you can see what other people are up to. I've been looking for a place like this for a long time, and I'm happy to be here!

So glad that you are happy here, and with someone who is also a little more experienced, you will be a great asset to this community as well ☺️

Thank you! I've got to clean off some of the rust that's accumulated over the years =) But definitely plan to "give back" here and elsewhere as I learn things. I've always been that way. People helping others is a great concept.

Congratulations! Way to go.
