What is the appropriate size of an image to cover the entire background of my static home page? in pixels?
You'll most likely need to try a few sizes, and have it set to scale automatically, because different visitors will be using different screen resolutions. Because of that scaling, it could make an image look not-so-good if the scaling is too much. The larger the image, the better it will look obviously, but then the file size itself could become an issue.
