Quality Content: A response to a Webinar I recently viewed.

I recently watched this older webinar titled, "Writing High Converting Content for the Web" & was rather impacted by the Author's passionate comments. So moved in fact, that I uncharacteristically wrote a rather lengthy response. I think I touched on a few important points for those of us involved in Site-building & such & decided to create my 1st blog with it. If you can & wish to view it, I've linked the webinar below. But the body of my response conveys the point, either way.

Response: I FEEL YOUR PAIN, AND (thankfully) YOU FEEL MINE: A discourse in quality content.

About 24 minutes into this program you were getting rather passionate about the Quality-Of-Content issue & the impact we, as self-appointed marketers, can have on folks & their on-line experience. It was so refreshing to hear this & it resonated with me. Not that I enjoyed hearing your discomfort, but that I have found this to be my biggest hurdle in this entire endeavor. As a musician (& a performer in general) I've not found many things more self satisfying & gratifying than presenting other folks with something that they really enjoy or that makes them feel good.

I've never viewed myself as "an authority" on , well, on anything really. And I find it difficult to simply practice regurgitation of found information or just compiling data for someone else to trip over on their way to making a potentially life-altering purchase (or maybe just buying some socks for that matter). Point being, this is what has delayed my construction of website(s): what I've agonized over for weeks, what has kept me up nights.

While having Turkey & Punkin Pie with my loved ones, Something hit me (other than the Tryptophan laced Carb-Crash). The realization I came to is that I (& we all) do in fact possess some knowledge that interests others. And I (& most others I've met here) am/are moderately intelligent individual(s) with the ability to present stuff to others in an interesting way via a forum that can help them find desirable outcomes. And I can actually Do This...

My conclusion to this, thus far: Find the happy balance. In other words: Somewhere, between being the most informative & authoritative source of some esoteric knowledge & being the most entertaining purveyor of profoundly pleasurable products but at the expense of genuinely useful information, lies a middle-ground: a comfort zone where I/we can present to others information about something(s) that they want/need, in a "Package"/Presentation/Page that they will be eager to unwrap and even enjoy the endeavor, and better still, be grateful enough to return to do it again in the future. Most importantly, done properly, this can be a resoundingly rewarding process for Us, as well as all other parties participating: From you & your sites viewer, to the affiliate your promoting, the product(s) you're presenting and the service(s) you're selling.

But at all times consider, Honesty & Integrity, held in highest regard, appear to be in greatest demand yet shortest supply. Serving up healthy portions of these in our websites will be the ingredients that most help to separate our offerings from the stale goods littering the on-line "shelves" & 1st page search results, giving our viewers/clients/shoppers something they don't get elsewhere. And while you may have felt it a bit awkward to expound the virtues of morally focused &/or ethically high-grounded Quality Content, that, to me, seems to be the road less traveled, the path of most resistance, and yet the fast lane on the Information Superhighway to a satisfying experience for everyone; bringing together searches & solutions, seekers & presenters, buyers & sellers, questions & answers, pain & pleasure (passions).

Interesting post.

You don't really have to have invented something or know all the facts about it to be capable of talking about it on your website. The internet is such a jungle and there are so many facts thrown all over -- people come hoping to find answers and when they find a website that collects the summaries and helps them get to a solution -- that is as authoritarian as you need to be. That is one type of niche, and the one more likely to last and make a long term income.

The other type is just a promotional niche that you produce to get in front of a popular product or idea -- most likely in the early stages, although there are products found out there that the creator simply does not try to market -- and you can market on their behalf.

Either way, you are providing a service to people looking for it.

Yep- quality content every time.

Hi - content is all that matters - it's drummed into you in the training. If you know about something, blog about it and find out how to monetize it = business (included in the training here)!

All the best, Mark
