My website/blog is underway.
I like to write. However, selling myself has never been easy for me. I don't like attention, I don't like to be vulnerable to ridicule, so this is kind of a scary venture for me. But my dad's been working 12-hour shifts his entire life. Literally, his family started the business that is now known as "Metro Cars" out of their house, he's been dispatching sedans FOREVER. But the business is all screwed up and he's pulling it along as their last good leg.
And since I'm a classical violinist with social anxiety, being behind a computer and keyboard feels most comfortable for me and I thought, why the hell not try this? Not doing anything else when I'm on here.
But I'm learning that this site just helps you set up the very bare workings of a good quality website. It can't guarantee you'll be successful, it can't guarantee that people will like the content you create, it's really up to the demand that is people and want.
I'm glad I didn't pay for any kind of software, though, or lessons from these other sites like "Bring the Fresh" or "gsniper."
I'm currently waiting on a few sites to get back to me about approving me for their affiliate programs and accepting their banners and commission price on my site. However, it has been a lot more work than I anticipated. I'm pretty sure I've already put 10 hours into my blog and waiting to be approved by ShareASale and LinkShare and e-mailing companies, yadda yadda yadda. I mean, Internet marketing had its big heyday before Google thought to make changes and try to put an end to all those sites stealing the first search page. Now it's about generating your own traffic, which is really hard to do with the competition right in front of your eyes all the time.
But like I said, what can it hurt to try? I've never dealt with affiliate banners or links, but I'm learning a lot, so even though I'm very skeptical about how this can't possibly work for everyone, I'm liking making my blog something worthwhile.

I had the same fears and still do. I'm actual a loner and prefer to be by myself. But reading my blogs you would think I'm out going. So this business is perfect for folks like you and I. It allows us to come out our shell but in a controlled environment.
That said, I'll be the first to tell you that you will get a few haters that come out the no where. To this day, it still bothers me but I've learn to have a thicker skin and focus more of my energy on the positive people that comment and the great community here at WA.
So it's a growing process and you'll do fine if you don't let your fears conquer you. Clearly you are doing that because you're here blogging and you joined WA. So you're already on the right path!
In terms of being skeptical of how this works for everyone, it doesn't. You see this business doesn't work for you, you have to work for it to be successful. There are literally billions of people on the internet. Why wouldn't it be possible that just a fraction of those people will visit your website? That's all you need is tiny percent of a fraction to visit your site. When you think about it like that it's totally achievable.
