The map is not the territory! Ohh no you are crazy Frank!

Hi friends, thank you for dropping by I hope that going forward I would like to share an experience, I believe, most people go through. May I be so bold as to say I am guilty of it and to be honest I do it quite frequently even now but not as bad.

What is that?

I assume a lot. WHAT? Yep, I must come clean. I think I know something but it ain't so. Man, I am so ashamed of myself, but because I'm a "macho-man" I refuse to admit it. My image is so important to me, to get off my high horse is below me.

What could it be that I'm that way you ask? I don't investigate my assumptions. I don't go beyond what's in my head so I stay stuck where I'm at. Personal growth, what is that?

What have I become? An opinionated know it all, that was me. I had experiences that I "believed" are answers, so what happens? I don't wanna learn anything.

Did this outlook in the past cost me? Heck yeah It did. This is what I learned.

To be open and flexible in that, "Hey I think I'm right but let me hear what you say!" attitude will expand my knowledge of anything. Believe me no situation is alike and information nowadays are ever changing. Changes to me is "never stop learning."

So you think I'll just end it here, donchaa? Nope, it gets worse. Have you heard the word "fear?" This bad thing happens to follow assuming. Why is that? Because If I get worried that I can't do it and afraid I would fail, well that is the consequences of assuming, I don't go further.

Now why did I titled this blog, "The map is not the territory?" Because to learn something one must get the hands dirty. Go into it like a child exploring anything. Think of the "MAP" as that of your mind. The mind screws things up until it discovers the realities don't quite fit the map. To be enlightened, one must go beyond assumptions and explore the "TERRITORY."

Ohh, my now I did it. I messed all of you up. I would love to hear what you have to share with me. Again, yay or nay is fine!

Mahalo everyone and have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm writing this blog a day before Thanksgiving and on the radio I hear Christmas music. What's that all about?

Frank =)

Hahaha....lols! Sherry that is exactly my point. You have hit the nail on the head. Great post my dear friend. That's quite all right you didn't come back sooner. It was worth the wait.

Hee hee I can identify with you about painting. LOLS! I don't paint but I know painting can really go into a "dead-end." Paints go over and over on top of mistakes. Pencils beats painting that you can erase and start off on a clean blank paper. I feel your pain. Sorry my laughing is still in me. Can't help it.... I promise I will stop laughing.

OK I am calm now.

Thank you so much Sherry, I was looking for someone to mention the importance of "learning" anything outside of one's head and you made my doing this post all worth it.

Thanks and say, hi to your wonderful family. I still see them all in my mind. I'm sure your kids are growing up so fast. Don't blink
they're changing right before your eyes.

Mahalo and Aloha my dear friend!

Frank =)

Lol, great to hear from you again, my friend! Now you have me laughing...it must be contagious!

I agree, drawing in pencil you can always erase things...well, unless you overdo it that is, like me. I've made a mess of some of my drawings after erasing things way too many times, then I have to think on ways to fix it so it looks like I meant to do that, no mistake here, lol!

You're definitely right, the kids are growing up way too fast! My youngest, my son, is now a bit taller than me, which is hard to get used to, lol! He shouldn't be taller already...it seems like yesterday that he was running around in diapers!

Btw, they all say Hi back to you and your family too! I bet your grand daughter has grown so much already too that your head spins...definitely going to have to keep our eyes open hey? Lol, I'll try not to blink!

Mahalo and Aloha to you too, dear friend! Thanks again for making my day much happier :)

Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Nice Sherry. Thank you for those kind words. Um...ahh, I'm not a grandfather as of yet, still waiting. My daughter says she'll wait to 2022 to start her family. Grandma can't wait. Oh well, such is life, lols!

Yes that's not suppose to happen baby in diapers grow bigger than Mommy, stay calm it will get worst, he'll get taller my bet. hee hee.

Funny thinking about them I see your son on a turtle and daughter as a mermaid, nice.

Take care Sherry hope to see you around! I'm not worrying, I know we will.

Frank

Ohoh, did I say grand daughter? I did! Oh, no...my apologies! Oh, my...now I'm making you into a grandpa before you should be, so sorry for the blunder there! Oh, I'll bet future Grandma can't wait though, lol!

Your daughter sounds like a wise woman indeed...busy making plans for the future by the sounds of it...better to have a plan, things usually go much easier that way.

Lol, oh, I'm sure he'll be towering over me some day, but hopefully not too soon! Take care, and see you around for sure!

~Sherry

Take care my friend, and happy holidays.

Be safe, I know you don't have crazy people driving on the road like this small island I live in, but just in case, be careful.

Frank =)

Happy Holidays to you too my friend! And yes, I surely will. Take care too on those roads there...seems there are crazy drivers everywhere, so better safe than sorry. Keep safe, my friend!
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

I like that. I want to see you around my friend.

Season's Greetings!

Frank

Hi Frank,
I'm a bit late getting here, but I had to chime in anyways...good to see a blog from you, btw!

I agree, we all sometimes assume things rather than find out the facts first...and end up learning later that we were only fooling ourselves, lol.

Whenever I've done that and found things were not going right, I realized it would have saved time to actually take the time to learn more about it first, rather than stumble about just thinking I know what I'm doing...and not to mention, it would have saved me from feeling like a fool.

Even with painting, it became much easier when I took the time to learn different techniques to achieve a certain look. In the past, I'd have the attitude "I'm going to paint this!" and jump into painting without any clue as to how I'm going to...and, well, that always ended up with a horrible mess and the more I tried to fix it, the bigger mess it became, and somehow my painting turned into a big blob, LOL!

Anyways, awesome post, Frank! It's a great reminder to myself to not assume things :)

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving over there, my friend!
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

I think that is why your drawings do so well Frank you look at things in a fun way I admire people that do that Happy Thanks giving week end. Here in Canada it was a month ago. I put your drawing of supper Linda on my deck top

Sorry such a late return, thank you for that observation. Hmmm.. I guess to "investigate" new ideas gives room for creativity.

I guess so, thank you Linda!

Nope Linda, you do make a lot of sense.

Great job Tommy, I'm going by memory but we must help feed our thoughts with positives, etc. Y'know I do it everyday. I do it to energy the bunny within. Y'know that battery commercial, not sure what battery, lols. All I remember it it keeps going and going.

Euphemism sure helps the inner self build confidence.

Frank,

Here are my thoughts you are a typical man!
I think all men are alike in ways and the macho is
in them all they think they know everything and
assume since this is what they think it is right!
Even when it is wrong LOL

As far as the Chrismas music playing on the radio
I am surprised they waited until now to start here
they had Christmas decorations in the stores
before Halloween - Seriously people can we get
through one holiday before you start pushing the
Christmas stuff :(

Anyways - Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
Susan

I do understand, lols! Thanks for venting your feelings, I assure you there are lots of males like me. stupid.

About Christmas. Yes, I heard and saw at retails store around me
way before my annoyance today of listening to Christmas songs on radio. I personally don't appreciate the feeling I'm being forced to feel forget Thanksgiving welcome Christmas.

Thanks for posting Susan, have a wonderful Thanksgiving and be safe.

Frank =)
