Hospitals,hackers,schools and silver linings
It has been an interesting 3 or 4 weeks, I have bee away from WA for quite a while foe various reasons, all alluded to in my heading.
You will be,I hope, pleased to know I have not succumbed to my nemesis...captain cancer, and things are looking positive. Touch wood, he says as he pats his wife on the head. A double boo boo as touching the head in South East Asia is considered a bit rude, but ripping foreigners off is ok. Oo0hh, tetchy Stevoi.
Hospitals and Schools
When things are sent to try us, they usually come in a friggin bucket loads, and that is what has happened.
My mother in law (No MIL jokes please, she is a good man, lol) ended up in hospital for a week and has just got home. She is weak but still kicking (Me).
The hospital she has insurance with ( You buy insurance for the hospital you use in Vietnam) does not provide meals, so my wife had to get up early and cook breakfast etc.
Time consuming and it takes her away from our ESL schools here. My wife does most of the general Manager stuff for our schools. And during all this, read on, we opened another school. So more work, hahaha.
To make things easier , I have redesigned a lot of the back end stuff (tax, wages, students, classes etc.) and put it into a package that turns it from a manual system to automated. i will be releasing this as a package for small to medium ESL schools in Vietnam and Thailand.
Hackers
Also, I wanted more, during all this, I got hacked big time. 3 computer, my i-phone and the router. Still slowly working through it,
I first noticed it on my old computer and kicked him out that, but his ego didn't like that and he went full monty. ( I know its a he, as he couldn't help himself and left a small message on part of a screen keyboard "puzzle' to get get into my computer). And he is Vietnamese as I saw some of his nefarious workings.
To cut a long story short, I have everything back in working condition and slowly reopening accounts on social media and other business accounts to check everything out and take back control. I expect this will take another couple of weeks.
The only thing that made me happy, or flattered my ego hehe, was when I got my new laptop checked out at dell, they said this guy was very good. So at least I peed him off for a few days.
The Silver Lining
My knowledge of computers, routers and anti virus, malware, blah blah blah has skyrocketed. I spent a straight 24 hours with no sleep fighting this turd, and am using this knowledge to configure my own "network" with support from an amazing company which uses traditional and AI structures to prevent and hehe...more.
The other great thing, and probably even better, was with the downtime I have had time to think about my online businesses and will be refining and changing a lot of the ways I do business online.
The obvious one out of this is ....OK, let's turn it into a question. Tell me why you may not buy something online, even if you love it?
My personal silver lining is that not being in front of a screen everyday has given me time to be me.
Have a Great One

Stevoi, you have been through a lot lately. I am glad to hear that you are doing well and that Captain Cancer did not win. That alone is something worth celebrating. The hacking story sounds frustrating, but I respect how you turned it into something useful. Learning from chaos and coming out smarter is no small thing.
You asked why people might not buy online even when they love the product. For me, the main reason is trust. If a site feels even slightly unsafe or unclear about payments or delivery, many people walk away. Trust builds confidence, and without it, sales vanish.
John
Thank you John,
And you are right. It is trust, and not just in the person or product, but the website itself. You need certified encryption payment processes attached to be in the game.
Steve
You're most welcome, Steve. Trust is important and difficult to earn as well, especially from faceless online strangers. Let's try out best to be trusted.
I had wondered what had happened to you- so now I know. What a landsilide to deal with!
Congratulations for haning in there. I am sure that the evel doers will multiply and attact more often as they have AI to do so much of the work for them.
Hope your mother-in-law is soon up and around. There are many blessings to count, but Oh my goodness, do you ever need a break! Congratulations for using your time to streamline or change some of your business
practices. Good luck, and thanks for the update.
Sami
Thanks Sami.
I am still wading through the shite, but I have big boots..lol..and a good sense of humor, so whatever happens I am cool.
I will be redesigning everything, and also adding more tools for people to track hackers and return malware, thanks to China, ..so my inner fire is burning again.
Steve
That's a powerful combination of topics! It's sobering to think about hospitals and schools facing cyber threats, but important to remember that even in tough situations, like the pandemic, there can be silver linings if we focus on innovation and resilience.
Lucky you caught him. I thing these clowns sometime do those things just because they can.
Best!

Thank you for sharing Zoopie
I had a bad day yesterday, but you and your family seem to having quite a bunch of bad days in a row. It is terrible how so many people are experiencing health issues today. Even young children seem to not be as healthy as when I was a kid.
We are all thinking of your family and you during this time, I hope your mother-in-law keeps kicking you for writing about her.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff,
Still working through the shite but the good news is my latest scan showed no cancer growth. Doctors are surprised and they want me to do a CT or MRI to confirm. The power of alternative medicine. Why don,t they let Ivermectin be sold other than a pet medicine...
Steve
Awesome News Steve
That is a miracle to hear your scan shows no cancer growth. I wish you much success with your CT or MRI to confirm you are now cancer free
