I am at lesson two of course three and it is at the part where we choose an affiliate network to join. My niche is on pet food, most specifically feed cats and dogs as carnivor
Type into Google, Pet Food + Affiliate and if you see one you like then look at lots of reviews for that company before making a choice.

What is the best affiliate network for pet based websites?

There is no one "network" out there. But you'll find many individual affiliate programs using this method: How to Find Relevant Affiliate Programs
May I ask then what should be done with Lesson 2 course 3 then? Part of the lesson is to join one of the "networks" like click bank or so on. Is this lesson outdated or is anyone of those better than the other per my niche/ in general?
Oh, in that case I would just join CJ, Shareasale, or Linkshare. Those are "networks", so they have thousands of affiliate programs they manage. You'll only pick one or two actual programs to begin.
Or you could find something like Petsmart affiliate program and see who manages it. Chances are, it's one of those big 3!
