Social Media - Testing My Commitment

Social media has always been one of those things that I've never been too involved in. I have my facebook and instagram accounts, but I don't really use them. And when I do, it is posting my monthly family photo or looking for the perfect Simpsons meme for a group chat.

So when it came time to use it seriously, I was stumped. It was a whole new learning curve for how social media can actually be used to generate traffic. I'm also quite a private person, and dislike putting myself out there in the public eye, and so on top of the learning I also had to overcome my anxiety around this idea (even though I keep my blog and socials semi-anonymous, people who know me can tell it's my work). At this point, I began to procrastinate.

I avoided writing blogs, I avoided creating the social accounts, I made excuses. I told myself the training here at WA on the social media section wasn't enough and didn't explain it enough, and that I needed to do more research. And although I do think the social media part of the training does need a revamp, these were all excuses to keep avoiding. To tell myself it was ok that I hadn't started.

Now my wife has been checking in on how everything has been going, and she is quite the social media guru, so I bit the bullet (aka swallowed my ego) and asked for help. Which she did. And not only did she teach me about how to use social media, but also helped me face my worries and accept what needed to happen if I wanted to generate traffic.

And while my socials are only just starting, I have a few followers and I have generated new traffic to my site from people outside of the WA community and family/friends.

Moral of the story: don't delay, don't avoid, and just get started. You can research as you go, you can fix mistakes later. And if it is too hard, then ask for help. Whether that's here in WA, or someone you know. But things don't start happening if you keep waiting!

Social media is nothing more than smoke and mirrors invented by governments to collect data on citizens and to keep attention away from what is really going on in the world. And it works.

Most people in the usa can name all the Kardashians but could not tell you the name or their congressmen or senators.

It is a necessary evil we have to learn to use however in the affiliate marketing game.

I was a bit skeptical about social media too early on, but had to eventually get on board. Thanks for the post.

Thanks Zak
