Niche - confusing or encouraging?

I have been a newbie to Online Marketing world. Rather a Fresher. During my online training, I came across this "interesting word" called NICHE.
I understand NICHE is a group of people with common interest in simple words. Understood. The question then arises is - Can we have more than one Niche in our online world or we should stick to only one?
To me, Niche looks like a College Girlfriend. You get attracted to many, but "convert" only one as your Life Partner! My gut says, I should remain with only one that i love (NICHE ....I mean), but what to do when others are attractive and/or enticing too!
Is NICHE More of a confusion or an encouragement?

It is, of course, recommended that there is only one niche per website. Trying to be 'all things to all people' is a TOUGH job!
Now, the broad niche, such as Jewelry, in the posts, on the main page, can be backed up by several narrower niches, like silver, gold, turquoise, etc, can be dealt with on subsequent pages.
A niche is something that you are passionate about or love a great deal. You can have more than one niche but not on the same website. Each niche should have it's site. You can't write relevent information about your niche if there is more than one on a single website. Decide what you want to focus on and make that your niche. You have to be focused on just one niche per website or yes it will be confusing for anyone visiting your site. You will not succeed with multiple niches on the same website.
I'd recommend you work in a niche you are truly passionate about, there's nothing more dreary than writing content year-after-year about a topic that bores you to tears! :)
One Niche per website would be the wise man's choice, remember that a website will be built over a period of time,
It is not a one night stand, so in choosing your niche ensure that you can fill your website with quality and engaging content for a long time to come.
