The End of Febuary: The end of my little "case study"
So about 4 weeks ago (a month) I made some research on my posts, on which ones are ranking, and which one aren't. And one thing I noticed was that, the articles where I added a little box at the top where I answer the overall question tend to rank higher.
So I had a post that ranked low, like position 80. And I added this little answer directly box to it.
That is what I added to the article to see if it would even rank higher at all. And I had some results from it.1 week after I added it I ranked for a keyword at position 22. Which wasn't high really, but it was better then 80 or 90. So I was happy with it.
But as you can see in this screenshot, no one apparently searched for it, or Google just don't rank me for that keyword anymore. But I would say that is something at least. But the question is how did the article rank overall after the changes?Well, this is what GSC says:
These are the stats from the last 28 days compared to the previous 28 days. And well, I am ranking 0,1 positions higher on average than the last 28 days.
WOW! What a huge difference, lol! π€£
But if we take a look at some other things too, I have gotten 2 more clicks, plus like 27 more impressions the last 28 days.
But I am more curious about the keywords:
So what I can see is that I started ranking for new keywords, that didn't go as high, but I have also ranked higher by a few positions on average for a few keywords. And one keyword I ranked down 6,5 positions.
So, Does The Little Box At The Top Help You Rank Higher? From what I can see, I would say yes. But it isn't really a ranking factor I would say, it just helps a little bit.
A few things that I always think of when looking at things like this is that, firstly my site is like 9 months old, I am pretty sure now. And it doesn't have authority at all, maybe some now, but not much.
Right now, I am in a stage where google ranks me up and down. So one day I can be at a position 50 on average, and then perhaps 70, or 80.
Another thing I tend to think of like one of my mistakes was that I targeted keywords with higher competition too early. So like 7 months ago, I actually didn't really know how thing were done properly. So I would like possibly target those low hanging keywords after 1 month. When my site basically has no authority and no traffic or anything really. And that resulted in me ranking low.
Nowadays, I still target low hanging keywords, since I now know that I can't really rank high for keywords with a lot of competition. So that I slowly build up that trust with Google, and then start targeting keywords with a bit more competition with time.
So for me having these mixed results, or very low rankings, is just probably because I am ranking for a keyword with a lot of competition and I don't have that much authority yet.
Simply said, this method works, it helps a little bit, but it won't be a magic trick that makes you rank from position 40 to 1. You might rank higher with a few positions. That is what I have concluded, at least.
Since my website don't have that much authority yet, I will keep an eye on it, and probably blog about it at the end of March. And compare it to now.
I do recommend you adding that little snippet or box. It won't hurt you really.
Thanks for reading :)

I see you are still in the Google fluctuation game Jonathan!
Adding a simple answer to a query and outlining it in colour will certainly do no harm!!
Things seem to be gradually improving though my friend, great work and keep it up! :-)
