What's in a name?

We all have to think of what to name our websites, and for some of us, it can really be tough to decide which name to go with. It's almost like naming a child, you don't want to name it something that you'll end up regretting or that makes no sense. You want a name that you can be proud of, is catchy, and relates to your niche.

For homework for my Spanish for native speakers class, we had to research the meaning of our names. Truth be told, I've never actually researched the meaning of my name. My government name is Roberto, not Robert, but I always go by Robert because I hate how people pronounce Roberto in English unless they know how to pronounce it with a Spanish accent.

It turns out my name means "bright fame" and is of Italian and possibly Spanish origin. A few other tidbits on my name:

  • Your name of Roberto indicates qualities of a leader and organizer but a difficulty in concentrating and systematizing your efforts interferes with achieving your goals.
  • You desire a good standard of living and the best quality in all your material possessions.
  • You have a friendly nature, well-liked by others for your sense of humor and pleasant personality and you love parties and socializing in general.
  • You could be musically or artistically inclined and may often be the "life" of the party and would enjoy finding expression in the entertainment field.

This description sums me up in a nutshell. It's crazy just how spot on it is. I've always wanted to be...not necessarily famous like a celebrity, but be well known and be able to make a positive impact on people's lives. We have enough negativity in this world, and I want to inject some positivity into people and give them a chance to have a nice life!

Fun fact: my dad wanted to name me Cornelio after his dad, but my mom had a fit and wouldn't dare let him give me that name. So they decided on Roberto, after a famous singer named Roberto Carlos that they both liked (key word, "famous" singer).

So yeah, just thought I'd share this with you guys. Names are important, and it's cool to know the meaning of names and stuff. When naming your website (or child), do some research beforehand and get other people's opinions! Or else you'll end up with a name like Cornelio like I almost did. :p

I always thought Robert was a bit Scottish! It must change with the o at the end. Anyways, it is a nice name. I think I prefer Robert(o) to Cornelio. I'm traditionally named after a parent/grandparent, It's just a thing some parents like to do, isn't it?

I know, right? I'm glad they chose Robert for me, though!

Roberto Carlos brazilian (my Nationally) singer ! ;)

Cheers,
Julio (SuccessDeus)

Haha that's wassup!

I like Robert!

Thanks! Me too! :)

Roberto is the name of my best italian friend. He has always been a bright star for my life. Names can be important, I agree!

Haha nice!!!

Hey Roberto. I love your name. If I may say so...please, no one be offended...it's a sexy name. My grandmum was part Spanish so I know the Spanish pronunciation.

And you are indeed such a bright star that it is the perfect name for you. I am very happy to share your successes through following you here at WA. Great and fun blog! Cheers and Best! :)

Haha I'm not offended! Thank you so much!

Well, the name definitely fits you. I'm glad your mom nixed the Cornelio. She must be a wise woman.

She's also a very STRONG woman lol (as in personality)

The football game was on in the corner of the waiting room when my son was born. As the doctor came in and asked what the boys name would be, I yelled out Brett!!! And so his name was Brett.

Why I was really hollering Brett was because Brett Favre was playing football on the TV, and he had just thrown an interception...... :P

And that is whats in a name........ :)

LMAOOO.
Well I imagine now in today's NFL you'll have a lot of boys named Tony, Matt, or Mark. I'll let you guess who I'm talking about lol.

Interesting! I enjoyed reading your blog today!

Thank you! :)

Nothing wrong with Cornelio, my full first name is Cornelius, but everybody calls me Con.

Idk I like my name. It's very versatile. I can go by Bob, Bobby, or Robert. It's all up to me.

This is interesting, appealing, and informative all rolled into one. Very good, but, in case you care, Comelio would have been a good choice, too. So glad you decided to share!

Thank you so much! :)
Haha I'll stick with Robert instead.
