What's in a name?

We all have to think of what to name our websites, and for some of us, it can really be tough to decide which name to go with. It's almost like naming a child, you don't want to name it something that you'll end up regretting or that makes no sense. You want a name that you can be proud of, is catchy, and relates to your niche.

For homework for my Spanish for native speakers class, we had to research the meaning of our names. Truth be told, I've never actually researched the meaning of my name. My government name is Roberto, not Robert, but I always go by Robert because I hate how people pronounce Roberto in English unless they know how to pronounce it with a Spanish accent.

It turns out my name means "bright fame" and is of Italian and possibly Spanish origin. A few other tidbits on my name:

  • Your name of Roberto indicates qualities of a leader and organizer but a difficulty in concentrating and systematizing your efforts interferes with achieving your goals.
  • You desire a good standard of living and the best quality in all your material possessions.
  • You have a friendly nature, well-liked by others for your sense of humor and pleasant personality and you love parties and socializing in general.
  • You could be musically or artistically inclined and may often be the "life" of the party and would enjoy finding expression in the entertainment field.

This description sums me up in a nutshell. It's crazy just how spot on it is. I've always wanted to be...not necessarily famous like a celebrity, but be well known and be able to make a positive impact on people's lives. We have enough negativity in this world, and I want to inject some positivity into people and give them a chance to have a nice life!

Fun fact: my dad wanted to name me Cornelio after his dad, but my mom had a fit and wouldn't dare let him give me that name. So they decided on Roberto, after a famous singer named Roberto Carlos that they both liked (key word, "famous" singer).

So yeah, just thought I'd share this with you guys. Names are important, and it's cool to know the meaning of names and stuff. When naming your website (or child), do some research beforehand and get other people's opinions! Or else you'll end up with a name like Cornelio like I almost did. :p
