Hey guys! Quick but important update. So I've been working on my website gymratsden.com and I honestly started to get a bit discouraged because it seemed like I kept updating it and nobody was reading it. But since I love writing about sports so much, I kept going and going. Recently, a high-profile sports company emailed me saying they saw my website and were impressed with the content! And get this, they offered to PAY me $35 to post an article onto my website! I didn't even have to write or anything, they did the work and PAID me for it!

All I can say is wow!!

Congrats this is just the beginning

Sweet. And having someone else create the content is the icing on the cake. There's more where that came from!

Haha I know it was so easy! I gotta keep going! I haven't even been on here that long! I can't imagine what it'll be like a year from now.

Thats fantastic man. Your persistence paid off.. literally. Keep it going.

Thank you so much!

Hey Robert, I really like your site. Great domain name and your enthusiasm for sports is very real. I'm not surprised that you've started to make money on this site. Keep up the great work and just remember... you never know who's reading. Cheers!

Thanks a lot I really appreciate it!

That's great man! Congrats.

Thank you!!

Are they selling the same type of product you are? Because if you have their link in there and it takes a customer off of your site then you could lose out on a sale. I know that sounds good but I am in a little agreement with @coolcity. Also, is their article duplicate content? They could be giving this same offer to a lot of people in your niche. Just be careful. Otherwise, I just want to say congrats if it is good!

I actually got to pick what I wanted the article to be about. They asked me what topic I wanted it on and I told them and they had one of their writers get it done and then email it to me. And I'm actually not selling anything on my website as of yet, I just offer content for now while I establish an audience. But both our websites are about sports, there's is just way more high-profile and has been established for years with a dedicated audience.

Hey then this sounds better all the time! Great!

I have read a lot of warnings about this sort of thing as Google is apparently aware that these types of links have been "bought" by the company and they are penalizing sites for using this type of link. I don't know enough about it though, we could do with some expert advice on this.

I have had a couple of offers like this for my website.

But if the company is high profile it could be OK? Both of mine were from well known national companies in the UK (they didn't offer any payment, just a link) but because of the Google warnings I wasn't sure if this was a good thing or a bad one.

It's a website that I'm very familiar with, actually. I've been a member of it for about 2 years now and I was so stoked when they actually found my site and wanted to write an article on it! It's definitely legit. I don't know about it affecting my rankings with Google, though.

Yes it's a great result and a fantastic feeling when it happens, but the Google issue does concern me and hopefully somebody on WA will spot this and maybe help to clarify the position.

I do wonder sometimes if one day Google will rule the world, but we have to go with it if we want a piece of the cake.

This was just covered in one of the WA weekly video's...or I might of gone back a few months I wish I remembered. From what I remember there was a problem if there was duplicate content or if you were getting links to your website, that's about sports, from a website that was about porn. Google has problems with back-links from sites that have nothing to do with each other, not with sites that have common niches. There was even an article that states that it's a good idea to become part of a forum of a related niche and ask them if you could write an article for them on their site for free and have your website in your signature so you can bring the audience from their site to yours. I'll find this WA article and link it here if I can.

This is the part I was talking about. It's under, "Become Known Within The Community" a few pages in.

That being advised by WA makes me feel that it won't get your google ranking in trouble if someone else post a non duplicated article on your site and when you post a non duplicate article on another website with a common niche.

I dont believe it!!!! lol jk :) well done

Haha believe it!

Very nice indeed to hear yet another success story.

Thank you!

hahah nice! That`s free content for your site and a nice little payday. Now you just need to break down how you got the offer. Is this a "guest post" with a link back to their site? Either way, it only benefits you; people don`t close one tab to go to another and providing access to other quality content only ads value to your site(and I`m assuming you had value to begin with to get the offer)

Yeah exactly they had a link back to their site. That was the only requirement, but I really didn't mind since it offers credibility to my website.

Oh one thing though- this is more of a blog than a niche site simply because of your varied subject matter. It could affect your rankings negatively.

Time will tell I guess in terms of affecting my rankings. I decided to take a chance since I highly respect this website. If it blows up in my face, at least I gave it a try and I'll recall this as a learning experience :)

It can always be saved. If it comes to that, just trim it down to fitness niche judging by the name.

Yeah I'm gonna look into trimming some of the fat on my site. Make it more specific. I still want to do the other things I talked about in my bio but maybe just create separate websites for them. I think it'd look cleaner that way even if it ends up being more work.
