Goal Setting

Here is one thing I see a lot of people having trouble with Goal Setting. I myself find myself guilty of this.

It is easy to set a goal for whatever reason you want to achieve in life but getting there or even understanding what it means to set a goal is a lot harder.

When setting a goal don't just say I want this or that but think about how you are going to get there. It is a journey and for some it is easy for others it is not. Don't beat yourself up on how well others are doing. You go at your pace little steps if you have to.

Here is a short story about my own goal setting.

Many years ago I came to Australia and I wanted a farm because I liked farming.

Did I have any knowledge about farming? Nope.

Did I have the money? Nope

So why did I want a farm and how was I'm going to get one? I couldn't even speak English.

My family had a farm in what is now Poland and I went to a farm in Germany as I grew up and i liked the lifestyle not really understanding what it all meant.

When I arrive in Australia I started to work on farms to get some experience in farming (first step in achieving my goal). To cut a long story short after only a few years we leased our first farm and 2 years later we bought our first farm which I still have.

I've done all this by having this thing in my head of wanting a farm. I didn't write out a plan or even given myself a timeline but i got there. It was a bit of an obsession and passion with big ideas.

The big mistake I made was not to reset my goal when we got our farm.

As a result of that I ended up just drifting along in my life and it took nearly 20 odd years to refocus of what I like to do and what I'm really passionate about.

All this has taught me set goal and preferable write them down and then make a plan on how to get there.

Hopefully you got some value out of this and possibly a bit of a laugh.
