Whittle while you work: covid19 research shows high sugar levels enable infection

If you’re short on time to read this, just know this: sugar is not your friend in the COVID19 scenario.

For those of you who stay with me here, this article is for information that may be helpful while many of us are sitting at home working on our computers. It is not intended to preempt the advice of your doctor, nor to discourage taking appropriate measures if you suspect you may be infected by the COVID19 virus, nor to advocate any political position.

As a newbie, I am still on the learning curve with a lot of things, and I unfortunately did not come with many of the tech skills so many of you already have LOL! But I do try to approach things with a beginner’s mind. I hope even without stunning embedded graphics, you’ll take away something that will help keep you safe and empowered.

While by no means am I a doctor, I am trained as an emergency medical technician who now does massage therapy, specializing in craniosacral therapy. Health has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I try to keep up with what’s going on in the fields, especially at times like this. So if you’re still on board, here we go.

(This is where I would have put in illustrations of cascading potato chips, luscious ice cream and fizzy soda, and maybe a heaping spoonful of sugar suspended over a steaming cup of coffee.)

If you tend to snack while you’re online aspiring to the goals you set when you joined Wealthy Associate, this is especially for you. Much as we all have our vices, now is a good time to begin to pay attention to some of our default habits. There is evidence that these and some others can get you more than you bargained for.

Current research, which you can read about here https://theconversation.com/blood-sugar-levels-may-influence-vulnerability-to-coronavirus-and-controlling-them-through-conventional-means-might-be-protective-136592, shows that sugar is the key that opens a cell to the virus and enables infection.

THE GIST OF THIS RESEARCH: THE VIRUS NEEDS SUGAR TO BE ABLE TO INFECT CELLS.

There are a lot of things that can increase your blood sugar levels: the things you eat and drink, stress, and lack of sleep, for example. High blood sugar issues – including undiagnosed diabetes – can increase vulnerability to this virus, making it easier to become infected. If you do take medication to control high blood sugar, then continuing to do so can actually help protect you from infection by reducing your vulnerability to it. Those without high blood sugar issues can control blood glucose through diet and exercise. Getting enough sleep also is key, since this is when your body produces the hormones and frequencies that do the repair work on you every night. These measures are important to consider, especially if you have already been infected by the virus, as they may help control the severity of the sickness and even help control viral spread.

You can always substitute stevia. It has no calories, and it lowers blood sugar naturally. And if you have a yen for something sweet, the sugar in an apple or some other fruit is preferable to outright sugary sweet food. The danger is in the sugar spikes that lead to those sugar crashes – which send your immune system haywire. At least, sugar in fruit is time-released within your system so you get the energy without the crash.

Mostly the sugar issue comes down to choice and to paying attention to what you are eating and drinking as you go through your days. Your body is really your best friend in many ways, and all it asks is that you give it what it requires to be able to do whatever it needs to do to keep you thriving. Sometimes all that means is paying attention to YOU, and keeping informed.

Also, stay hydrated. There are so many reasons for this, and water is a great general healer for so many things; but, in terms of COVID19, this is your means of keeping things optimized at whatever your current state of health will allow. Just make sure you have good water, and drink up.

I’m sending you my best wishes as you move toward achieving your WA goals and a thriving business, healthy and intact.

Thank you for reading.

All my best to you,

Elizabeth

Absolutely awesome info and a very well written article for your first blog!

I think you’re going to do very well here. :)

Looking forward to reading more. All the best.

Chris.

Thank you, Chris! Maybe next time there will be a few illustrations: my next goal...

Keep well,
Elizabeth

Thanks for the valuable information, Elizabeth, and have a safe weekend, my friend!

Jeff

You're welcome! Thanks for reading, and you do likewise ...

Best,
Elizabeth

I will, Elizabeth!

Jeff

Impressive for a foray into your initial blogs is it not!!
Very well done!!
Well written, structured and at just the right amount of content so well judged too.

Not venturing into any form of unsafe ground in terms of editing and ease of read even though offering what most nowadays would consider scientific fayre....lols

You have also judged the tone and inflection extremely well as it doesn't in any way read dry and lifeless for its topic base.

Very interesting and informative for me type II (controlled)..so thank you!!!

Wonder how you will play it going forward!!

I'm watching!! ha ha

Extremely well done for initial forays again!!

R.

Hi, Rami, thanks for the considered and thoughtful comments. I somehow missed going over this article that one last time before publishing, and consequently managed to rename the famous Wealthy Affiliates enterprise to "Wealthy Associates." I'll have to apologize to Kyle and Carson...However, Brufsky's research does meet a lot of folks where they are -- and to you, kudos for staying on top of the Type II. I believe that's the type that is turning out to be reversible, no? ;-)

Keep well,
Elizabeth

Wonderful.

Thanks. Stay well!

Fantastic blog Elizabeth, so much worthwhile information that so many WA members truly need. Myself I suck on sugar-free candy and use Splenda in my coffee and other places for a sweetener. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, I think is wonderful how WA members watch out for each other this way.

Joe

Hi, Joe, thanks for your kind comment. I know how tempting those donuts and coffee can be! But, seriously, this research just reminds me of how our health, especially now, depends so much on processes we can't even see, although they're very real...on both sides of the equation. Knowledge is power, so more power to you!

My best,
Elizabeth

Take care.
