How Do You Take It?
Lately I've been able to get a routine down of writing blog posts and taking care of my other responsibilities. I think most of us often hear a lot about people "taking day by day". At first I thought that only applied to those that don't have much of a routine down and each day is different to them.
But I noticed that I too at one point was "taking it day by day". Preparing for the next day and the next day only, because it was filled with so much that I can only focus on that and nothing more.
However, as I got my routine down, I start to realize that I wasn't taking it day by day anymore. Gradually, I was almost "taking it week by week", or even month by month.
I think the transition was because I wasn't so caught up in the tiny little details anymore. That was what used to overwhelm me.
Now that I have a solid routine down, I have a good idea of how much I can get done and what to expect week-in, week-out, month-in, and month-out.
Of course, there are still times that I don't know if a project at work might get pushed up, or if something with the family needs my attention, etc. But one thing I've learned when setting up a routine is to be conservative.
Padding our time when it comes to doing certain things will make room for emergencies like those. I personally anticipate each activity to take longer than it really would. So that when I do get extra time (which I often do), I dedicate it to the important things like blog updates, post writing, etc.
And I found this has worked out really well for me.
So I ask you: How do you take it?
