Understanding Delayed Gratification

Let's say that you LOVED cake, and you're really hungry. (Work with me here. If you don't like cake, substitue something you really really love.)

I offer you a piece of cake that looks pretty good. The frosting is not quite the frosting that you think is the best, but it still looks tasty.

I tell you that If you wait 15 minutes, and don't eat this cake, you can have a nice, big piece of your FAVORITE cake.

Do you eat the piece that's in front of you? OR... Do you push that piece away, even though it looks good, and wait that 15 minutes for the cake you know you are going to like so much more?

Waiting for the better cake is called Delayed Gratification.You're resisting the temptation of a good piece of cake, that you can have right away, and getting an awesome piece of cake, a better reward, after you wait a while.

Get Rich Quick Schemes

Get rich quick schemes are the good cake. You might make some easy money, but you might have to suffer through some bad stuff to get to it. You might get ripped off, and have to go through several schemes, before you see a penny.

Wealthy Affiliate

WA is the awesome cake. You have to wait, and work, and work, and work, before you see any benefit. But... the payout at the end will be much better and last much longer.

I'm in Month Five

I passed my four month anniversary of my primary site, on July 21st. I have made NO money. I have not received ranking on any of my posts. I have 6 total clicks in the Google Search Console, after working my butt off, to complete 29 quality, technical posts.

I've been crafting my site, and getting better every day at honing my images for social media. I've been establishing a list of best practices that I try to accomplish every time I publish a post.

I'm also starting to feel desperate for that magical Google traffic. Am I only two feet away from the gold vein or do I still have a mountain of rock to move before I ever get to it? I said I'd give this a year. That's a reasonable expectation, that I should have traffic to my website, and be making at least one or two sales in a year. I'm in month five . . . tick tock. I'm not quitting now.

It's a Long Game

If you think that you are going to be rolling in money as soon as you sign up, think again. If you think that you are going to get anything out of this, without putting in the work of researching, writing, researching, tweaking, researching, adjusting, and did I mention researching? Get a clue. You have to want it badly enough, that you work with NO MONETARY REWARD for months before you see the big rewards later. The difference is that there are people here to help and support you while you learn.

Focus
