How Do You Describe What We Do?

I've been here on WA for about 3 1/2 months, working hard learning and writing for my site. But if casually asked by someone I just met, "What do you do?" I wouldn't know how to respond in a few words.

I'm not thinking about an "elevator speech" that describes my skills and their benefits. I'm wondering more about a brief title that clues people in about what I'm up to.

Everyone knows what a nurse, carpenter, or scientist is. Am I an internet marketer? (I hope not because it might seem as if I've just fallen off the turnip truck.) Am I a writer? A blogger? A niche site developer? An entrepreneur? All of the above? None of the above?

I'm curious about how others in the WA family describe what we do. I'm sure there are some great ideas out there. Please share!

I describe myself as an internet affiliate marketer. If they want more info which most of my friends and families do, I just say I have my own online business that I work on at home and during my travels.

Of course then... I can't stop talking about my business because I'm excited about it. I let them know it makes money for me while I sleep and I don't have to have any physical inventory.

It's not boasting about what I do, it's just the truth. They asked, I tell them.

They then say... 'oh really... must be nice...'...lol.

The work IS nice, especially the way you describe it! I love your upbeat energy and confidence about your business.

I just love talking about my business... thank you for your comment back.

I like your comments I will follow you

Hi Rene,

Thank you and I'm following you now.

I wish you much success in your online business.

Monica

LOL
How did YOU read my mind???

Great minds think alike, I’d guess! 😂

How about "Online Marketing Entrepreneur"

I like that the description is brief but covers a lot of ground. Thanks, Bryan!

I just say I’m a entrepreneur lol:>)

Short and sweet. I like it! Thanks, Larry.

I say, "I'm a writer," or "I'm a content creator," because I feel that encompasses both what I'm doing with my WA site (writing informative posts that sometimes include affiliate links) and other freelance activities I do from home.

Those descriptions also resonate with me. Both are on point with what we do and are easily understood by other folks. Thanks, Ginger!

I would like to think we supply valuable information and answer the most asked questions to a particular group of people.

That shows a lot of insight into what we do in just a few words. Thanks. I'm going to remember that.

I identify myself as an entrepenur, when people ask "Yes, entrepenur, but what do you exactly do", you can respond by "Y'know Online Marketing affiliate?" They might know what you're talking about, if not, you can even introduce them to WA ;)

To add on. Provide them with your affiliate link, why not? Instead, you are helping them. :o)

Right! Win win

Great response, Maria. You can turn their question into an opportunity to share WA.

Hi Wendy, it does not matter. It's just a name or title. Businessman, Businesswoman, entrepreneurs, boss, freelancer, etc.
As long as you feel confident, just proudly tell them!
Wish you all the best to your success! :o)

Thanks, Terand. It's true that it's just a label. We can take charge and identify ourselves in any way we like.

Yes, Wendy! Do take care! :o)

You could use several:

Online Marketer
Affiliate Marketer
Content Marketer

or

"I'm in marketing"

Any of these describe what you do. Then if they ask you can give them the long version.

A lot of great ideas in one response! I'll have to think about which like best. Thanks, Glen!

Glad to help Wendy. The one that rings a bell with you is the one to use.

Just say you're a blogger that helps people in your niche.
So for me I would say I was a blogger that blogged on how to find legit work at home and avoid scams.

People understand blogging more than internet marketing. And sometimes even when you explain what you do, they don't get it. They just assume anyone that works on the internet just builds site or is a graphic designer. lol

That works for me!
Thanks, Eddy with a y!

No problem Wendy!
