How my marketing funnel improved my editorial calendar
I recently developed a new editorial calendar inspired by Meera Kothand's Create blog planner. Jay recommended it - and now I do too.
The editorial calendar that I created is based on my marketing funnel. I worried that working this way would make my writing too manipulative and forcefully salesy. I was wrong - the opposite is true. Now my weekly posts are cohesive and informative, because as I function as a tour guide for my readers, I pass on useful information.
I reverse engineer this process.
First I select a book that I want readers to buy from my affiliate link.
That will be my review post. My review posts are where I put my affiliate links - I don't put them anywhere else, and I don't use ads on my site.
Then I walk my readers through a pattern:
Monday: Make them aware of a problem.
Tuesday: Now that they're aware of the problem, I offer some basic tips.
Wednesday: I let them know that resources are out there for this problem, and offer a few more tips.
Thursday: I review the target book and present it as a solution for solving the problem thoroughly and with excellence.
My posts are cohesive now
My previous posts were a little scattershot. I was pulling from dozens of loosely related topics. Now every week I cover one topic thoroughly before I move on to the next. This gives me time to explore something in depth before I move on. That means that if a reader is interested in a topic, they'll be able to read multiple posts on the subject and get a richer experience than before.

I constructed a marketing funnel and the result is useful for both me and my readers because my content improved.
