Do you want to fire your boss?

Do you want to be your own boss?

Do you want to work for yourself?

If you have answered Yes to any of these questions, then you are welcome to read further because working for yourself is the most challenging step in your life. When I joined my new company as an Electrical Engineering Superintended, I had to sign a contract of employment, and some clauses were really not so suitable to me. I saw a clause like ,

"An employee may be required to work additional hours, which may include weekends and holidays. In such cases, the employee shall not receive any compensation for any overtime".

Are you a Good Boss?

Working online and working for yourself requires you to be a good boss. Are you able to manage your employees. What is your contract looking like as the boss of your own company and your employees. Do you have a vision and a strategy to run your own company? Are you aware that Bosses take responsibility and accountability for all the employees and their works?

Are you a Good Employee?

Often times, most people whne they think of working for themselves, they easily forget that they are actually employing themselves in their own companies. It all start with you understanding that greatness requires great service. Great servants are great leaders. You must lead in service and that will position you as a great leader. But, first you need to have an employee contract signed with your boss (yourself) in your company. Employees do not have much of a choice but have a contractual obligation to provide service to their employer. There are key performance indicators (KPIs) in nay work you are doing. There is a scope of work that must performed and a quality management systems (QMS) and Safety Management Systems (SMS) to be adhered to.

You are required as an employee to honor your contract and produce in accordance to that contract. How are you doing as an employee to yourself?

Are you showing up on time at work?

Are you really productive?

How do you deal with I don't know?

Being an employee and boss is quite challenging, because we at times can't fire ourselves.

learned this lesson when I was teaching Sunday School in the rural villages in 2001. Alhtough, I was not very religious, I used to read most religious books when I stumbled upon this teaching from Mark 7v7. You will notice that the first word when read horizontal it spells A. S. K and when you read the first letters only of the three words, the also spell A.S.K. This is fun at Sunday school because we would simply cut out those and turn it around. That is what kids love, fun activities.
