Building Your Business and Brand: Strategies for Online Success
Introduction
Whether you are a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, this guide provides valuable insights and strategies for success. From website development to marketing strategies like social media and email marketing, I’ll cover what you need to do to build a sustainable online business. We’ll also discuss common mistakes to avoid, such as focusing too much on quick money or failing to build relationships with your audience.
Making money online is more than owning and developing a website or YouTube channel. As a minimum, you will also need to combine this with some other form of marketing strategy, such as social media or email marketing. In the short term, it is acknowledged that many use social media to engage prospects when starting out, to build brand and trust. However, for scaling your business online, email marketing is suitable for automating the sales process and therefore recommended in the medium to long term.
Build Your Audience and Brand
In order to succeed online, it is important to understand the sales process and to remember that people only buy from people they know, like, and trust. Building relationships takes time. It depends on how well you communicate and engage with your audience.
The foundation for this is to provide valuable content to establish trust and credibility. Your brand is important, cherish it. This requires commitment and continuous effort to reach out to your list members.
You therefore need to place networking at the centre of your day-to-day operations in order to build relationships with your audience through list building and email follow-up to subscribers.
This means building your daily routine around the 3 important income-producing activities of traffic, conversions, and economics (the sales formula).
“You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” ~ John C. Maxwell.
The Sales Formula
The sales formula governs everything in sales and marketing. Note, however, that traffic can come from just about anywhere. Although situated ahead of conversions and economics in common parlance, it is not the optimal sequence when implementing the sales formula.
You should first focus on conversions and economics as it is important to get the terms of your offer correct before spending time, effort and funds on traffic. What does this mean in practical terms? Well, it’s important to have an interesting offer you can sell at a profit, after accounting for the costs of traffic, otherwise your marketing campaigns are doomed to failure.
Having established your offer, the routine is then to use advertising to send traffic to a lead capture or splash page to add subscribers to your email list. You can then “warm” these list members to build know, like and trust before trying to sell products and services.
Also remember, it is unlikely you will sell to strangers. The marketing sequence is therefore important. The recommended approach is to build your audience through list building and then foster relationships, or “warm” your list by email follow-up to subscribers.
Landing Pages
Landing pages are central to this process. These occur at the cusp of your website and emailing activities. If you are looking to improve your marketing and advertising campaigns, landing pages help you target your campaigns more effectively, collect leads, track the results of your campaigns, and make more sales.
However, there are different forms of landing pages. It’s important to use one which is appropriate to your marketing goal, whether to add subscribers to your list or to sell to that list in the future.
There are no shortcuts, it’s important to follow the established routine.
Avoid Common Mistakes
Avoiding common mistakes is crucial when trying to make money online. In particular, never try to advertise to a sales page as it is seldom you will sell anything to “cold” leads. Such leads are “strangers”. If you are to attain success, you need to “warm” some leads to become prospects and some prospects to become buyers.
Another common mistake is focusing too much on making quick money rather than taking time to build a sustainable business. Also, not understanding the sales process and failing to build relationships with your audience through valuable content and consistent communication are things to be aware.
It’s also important to not spam or bombard your subscribers with too many sales pitches, as this can damage your credibility and trust with your audience.
Learn from the Masters
By following good practice, you can maximise the effectiveness of your online marketing efforts to achieve better results in terms of revenue and profitability.
This is a well-documented approach. In closing, I’d like to emphasise it’s important to pay attention to the masters. We must always learn from and acknowledge those who have paved the way for us...
“If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want, copy what they do, and you’ll achieve the same results.” ~ Tony Robbins.

Conversions are twofold reflecting the two stages of email marketing. The first stage is list building where the conversion is attracting leads to opt-in or to subscribe to your email list.
The second stage is email follow-up where you send emails to your subscribers, the aim of which is to warm some of your leads to prospects. and some to buyers. The second conversion then is to make sales.
