Why do we have to pay credits for having people make comments about our site content?
Surely people can make comments anyway.
I've spent a lot of time trying to connect with the WA community, warusty. In fact, TheAbie was the FIRST TO welcome me! She's continued her support as many others have too.

Why do we have to pay credits for having people make comments about our site content?
Surely people can make comments anyway.
You don't have to, that is up to you. You can earn credits through the SiteComments platform by offering comments, and then you can use those earned credits to get comments on your site.
You can do that from within the SiteComments platform:
