Things to remember to do.

I just read an article on Fibromyalgia being curable. I'm not going to necessarily discount the author's theory (if you will)...I'd love it if it was curable! What I noticed about the site are some things that Kyle has mentioned in the training classes. These things will definitely make your site more professional and help give you more authority while gaining the trust of your readers.

1. Have an "About Me" type page. Let your followers/readers know who you are! One thing I know I need to do is update my About Me page. Things change and I want to make sure when/if someone lands on that page that they have the most up to date about me and what I feel I need to share.

2. Change "admin" to your real name, pen name, nickname....something besides admin. The article I read was about medical information...I'm having a hard time laying any credibility to them because they still have "admin" for the author.

3. Proofread what you wrote...at least once....the author of the article I read mentioned having 2 reasons for the reasoning of the theory. Guess what? I still can't figure out what reason number 2 was. People aren't mind-readers...especially if they don't know who's mind to read!

No one expects perfection, but at least make sure people aren't going to question your credibility. You want them coming back to your site...not questioning it. OK...off my soap box and back to my little corner of the Internet.

Good reminders I do go over mine and sometimes I can still miss something so I also ask for feedback at the site comments feature

These are good reminders, thanks :) I just went back and read through my first post, not to proofread, but to look for something. I had been walking around all week with the idea that it was pretty dang well cleaned up, but...no. I found at least half a dozen typos in just a casual look, so obviously it needs a real proofread! Even with a lot to do, we gotta remember the small stuff ;)

I do the same thing. I think everything is good and when I go back over it, I find a bunch of things to change. I remember one of my teachers telling me to read it out loud. That helps. I've told my daughter the same thing since she's started writing papers...and she will do the palm to the forehead and start laughing!

I'll have to try that--it's amazing how much can be missed. I once sent 15 chapters of a novel to an editor to be looked over. I had proofread it three times, plus spell/grammar check, plus all the eyes-on-page time with the revision process, so I was pretty sure it was perfect. It came back with 12 errors. And here's the clincher: As I read back through, I found no less than 40 typos of one sort or another that the editor had also missed. I was embarrassed, and felt like I'd wasted my money. But it goes to show that things get missed.

I think part of it is that when we're reading something, especially if it's in any kind of narrative style, the ideas and the 'story' are moving us forward, so our brains largely dismiss irrelevant information unless it interferes with the flow of thought. That's my theory anyway. Or maybe I'm just really bad at typing, lol ;)

I think you're right about our ideas moving us forward...I have to go over papers for school a few times and catch something quite often. I've started using Grammarly...the free version...but that version won't show you the "advanced" mistakes made.

I'm surprised the editor missed so much in your novel...but then again, I've read several print books and saw minor mistakes. We definitely aren't perfect!! Kudos to you for getting that far in your novel! I've written about 2.5 chapters in mine!

Thanks, it was pretty exciting :) Keep going, once you get in the groove it goes by faster than you'd think! I'll definitely have to check out Grammarly, I keep hearing good things about it :)
