..that was never properly monetized...
I had tried many different monetization methods: ads, affiliate marketing, selling my own products, courses and some of those did
No Offense to you; and I have had this problem myself for sure. You may have already done this? But, if you have not? Review the Training. If you are having big problems? Review the Training; I don't usually say this. But, I would review OEC at least 5 times. Then Review AB at least 5 times. I hope you have the time for that? And if you want? Take notes. You can take notes in Microsoft Word. And no Offense to Other Members meant; but I will ask Other Members to chime in? Please Other Members do Comment? And please don't get mad at me? Asking for Other Members to Comment too?
Here are my thoughts.
Is your content out of date?
Does my content help people? and how! Is it something people are searching for in Google (auto suggest)?
Do the query words represent the purpose for the niche?
Has keyword search interest changed?
Who are your competitors and how are you ranking in comparison to them.
Do you have drive to make it better?
Pages cannot be categorized or tagged naturally, but code can be added to the functions.php if need be. Were you relying on categorization before?
The blog roll and previous and next post is something unique to posts.
Do your old pages have a lot of customized html?
I would copy your old site into a free siterubixc.com site to make your changes then you can copy it back if file structure URL does not change. Or if you have none available buy a dot com to act as your testing site.
I would definitely go through the training. You may be able to start with L:eve2 but its probably good to go through level 1 quickly.
I think you need to do both, Violet and there's no reason why they shouldn't overlap.
Yes, go through the training, as some of it has been updated and you will see it with fresh eyes anyway.
As for the site itself, I'd create a landing page for each product you have and put them on a Products menu.
Change all your articles to blog posts, refresh the content and, where they're promoting a product, point the link to the landing page.
That should keep you out of mischief for a while 😊.
Haha, thank you Phil, it's important to stay out of mischief for sure! Currently I do not have any products but am intending to focus on affiliate marketing and ad revenue, at least to start and get the income flowing. Yes, your suggestions to refresh the site and update posts and everything is great.
You're welcome, Violet. When I say products, I'm including affiliate products.

How much traffic do you have? Perhaps you can utilize ad networks?
You can certainly revive your site.| update your posts.
Hi AbieAJ, the traffic dropped (long story but it had been hacked in 2020 so it got delisted). At this point, I think it's like 300 uniques a month or somewhere around there. Ads would be a great idea.
You probably know however you can edit all except changing the URL, if the URL changes to Google it would be a new post.
So you'd lose out on any ranking that has been done.
You probably could consider Mediavine (50k) or AdThrive (100k) once revived and back in business.
And there's also Ezoic however not as great as the others.
Yep, thank you. Do you know if there is any benefit to post vs page? It seems it flows more on the themes that I am checking out. Otherwise, I am not sure it would be worth the effort.
Post definitely vs pages
Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Most definitely.

Strategy for 10 year old site?
..that was never properly monetized...

I would say yes update your posts from 10 years ago. no one is the exact same person they were 10 years ago, I'm sure your thoughts and the way you see things have changed since 1st writing them. Keywords probably could be changed from that long ago as well.
I can just say here; I don't know if this is the case; but if you have posts with Keywords that are getting great rankings? Don't change them. I am just saying if you have successful posts; don't change the Keyword Titles; hope this helps?
