Starting over again.

I am beginning a new phase in my life.......

I was 5 years old. This was my fifth foster family and I had been with them for two and a half years.It shoukld have been my permanent family, but someone noticed me and wanted me.

They were adopting me to replace a son who had drowned, (not a fair position to put the child in, to have to live up to another childs standards). 6 monthhs after I arrived, they re other son drowned.

I do not remember the day I left to join that family. But, years later, when I was reunited with the last foster family I had had, my foster mother told me I had come downstairs, marched past everybody that was there to see me off and without so much as a parting glance at anyone, went to sit in the front seat of the car that would be taking me to meet up with my new family. My brothers and sisters were baulling their eyes out, watching me through the window, everyone was quite upset.

On the way home in the car with my new family, my new mother said out loud to the rest of the family, "What are we going to name him". Are you serious, youre going to change my name too! at which point I lost it and freaked out! My father had to get off the highway, so that I wouldnt get us into an accident, I was so upset, (a doctor I saw years later said that he believed it was at this point that I had had a nervous breakdown, and was the point where my PTSD started).

I erased the first 5 years of my life and everything in it.........and started over..........

So, if a child at 5 years old can do it, then anybody should be able to do it. Start over, wipe the slate clean, give a fresh go at it. Maybe its scary, maybe it seems so unsurmountable.But it can be done and will be if forced.

This is my new beginning......And you are my new Family.........thank you for being there.
