So you spend 5 hours researching info for your next post then you spend 3 hours wrighting it all out just the way you want it, Looks good and has alot of information pertining to the subject and you hit delete on the wrong one. The one you have just spent all that time on, and the one you didn't want is still looking at you dead in the face.

Rule of thumb make sure, Positive you are deleting the right thing, wright you post under the site content which I did not do :(

Now tomorrow I will start all over again.

One of those life lessons...aughaaaa!

Life has a way doesn't it :)

Hi it happens. What you can do is to give the word doc a name as soon as you start writing, that way it is not deleted unless you highlight and press delete. a doc into which you can type all your draft posts. You can also create a doc in google drive and repast the post there. That way it is sync on all your gadgets. Hope this helps

Yes It does I have seen where other people use Google doc and I am going to look into it, I have Word and think I might try typing the articles and pasting them in to it and saving on my computer just for safe measures thank you so much for the info VickiG

Oh Wow, I hate when that happens. I feel your pain. :(
So glad for second chances and unlimited opportunities! :D

Wishing you all the best, hoping that all works out for tomorrow.

Linda

Thank you Linda just a great lesson first to use another program and save to my computer and them put it on a post, and second is not to be so trigger happy with my fingers in deleting something make sure I check it out thoroughly. Best Wishes to you too

Lol, yes Vicki, it is said that patience is a virtue, it's more like necessary with writing. :D
Writing here in Site Content helps too. It saves what we write every minute or so. Hope you complete your goals today!
And....
Have a beautiful day! :)

Linda

I suggest writing your posts in a word processor first, then you have a built in backup just in case!

You are so right thank you I have never done that before I am usually so careful, especially when it comes to deleting something.
Thank you

Just chiming in. - WA SiteContent is a good example of a word processor. ;-)

I usually write my draft in a Word document and save it there. When I think its is to the best of my ability (images included) only then do I cut and paste it in my post. If anything happens to my post, I always have a copy of it in my Word documents. If I accidentally delete the Word document I can always retrieve it from my Recycle Bin. Once I post it in WordPress, my website is not only backed up everyday at WA hosting. I also back my website up in Drop Box and it is set up to do a backup everyday! So, I have coverage all around!

You are right Verna thank you for all your help, maybe by my mistake others will follow your lead and do the same it sounds a whole lot safer. again Thank you for all your help VickiG

THE ARTICLE IS NOT DELETED IT IS IN YOUR WORDPRESS TRASH BIN!!!

It is not showing in the trash bin there is nothing there

Hahaha, You're right!
Vicki, to get there, do the following:
Posts → All Posts
Pages → All Pages

Vicki, go to your website posts where all your posts are listed. At the very top you will see all of the posts that are active and all of the post that you deleted. The deleted posts will be listed under "Trash". Click on the "Trash" and you should find your post there as long as you haven't deleted the items in your "Trash" bin!

Hey Vicki:

I think all of us have done something like this at one time or another.

Yes, very frustrating - I feel your pain!

Thanks for the kind words, just thought I would let everyone know to use site content, that way you don't get so confussed

I'm confused. Exactly where did you write your article? Was it in a word document on your computer? Did you not get a pop up asking if you are sure you want to delete it? If you were in a word document on your computer, you can check your RECYCLE BIN and get it out.

I think it was in WA SiteContent, but I can't be sure.
The way I interpreted it was that she had 2 drafts and thought that she deleted the "poor" one. But in fact, it was the rich one.

But of course, I could be way off.

No I had started post in WordPress and didn't like it, should have deleted it from beginning, but just went ahead and started another post, when I got done. I hit delete on the one I thought I didn't want and, wound up hitting the one I did want, stupid mistake Lesson Learned

"Rule of thumb make sure, Positive you are deleting the right thing, wright you post under the site content which I did not do :"

No, according to the above quote she didn't write it in Site Content. Depending on where she wrote it, it very well could be in her trash bin.

Noted, thank You

Very frustrating, it's easily done. As you said the site content where it autosaves. You will soon get it done again. All the best.

Thanks I know should have used site content but my mind didn't think that far ahead I sometimes forget about it LOL

Try a long shot and see if SiteSupport could help You recover this article, Vicki. They state to take "snapshots" persistently so there might be a chance if You don't delay on this.

I don't want to get Your hopes up just yet, but maybe it's worth the shot.

Let me know how it went.

Thanks will try now

I'll be here at the edge of my seat, rooting for You, Vicki! :-)

Well at least I won't be sitting alone :) thanks

Certainly! :-)
I've looked into this some more now. And this should be possible. But again, I don't wanna disappoint you.

Just stating the fact there's something called a database recovery. Which would be able to bring back every post, even the drafts.

The solution has two ways:
Either make a "back end recovery" which would require a "dedicated hosting service". And that is not offered in here, currently. However, SiteSupport has that available.

Or two, Use a plugin.
Simply install one of these 3 plugins to start digging :-)
UpdraftPlus
BackWPUp
All-in-One WP Migration
Or even JetPack would do.

Vicki, If you didn't write it in Site Content, Site Support won't be able to help you.

Since WordPress is only a folder on the database on WA's hosting servers, I can't really agree with You. May I kindly ask what You base this on, Verna?

Let me clarify my statement. WordPress is dealing with your website and therefore, it is an issue that Site Support would help with.

My statement was that if she DID NOT write it is Site Content Support would not help. I said that because I was thinking she used some type of word document to write her article and in that case Support wouldn't help her. I wasn't aware at first that she wrote it in WordPress.

Support is on the case, so I will let every one know the only thing I could find without going into the admin files ( which I don't even know how to start ) Is one that will only work if the site was backed up before I deleted,
But tomorrow is another day thanks for you research I do appreciate it, VickiG

Yes mam I did I thought it was the right one I had published it though so if support got a back up of it then I might be able to get it back

Either way, we handled this exceptionally well, if I may say so myself. ;-)

But Vicki, the post is in the WordPress trash bin. :-)

Robin, I'm really confused now. Is this image from your posts page or is this Vivki's? Because unless she went in there and deleted it from the Trash it should still be there!

Yes and I thank everyone the trash can is not showing so I deleted it permanently. At least I still have my notes on the information from my research so I will have to do is retype
Thanks again to all VickiG

No it is him show me where to go, but it is not not there i emptied the trash just got in a hurry and didn't think to look before I acted

Wait, isn't this what You deleted? Or is there more to this story?

that, Verna, is just a random image with no label on (as in, no infringement) to show where to go.

Now I am confused, yes I deleted the post and emptied the trash, You have the right picture for me. There is just nothing there.

oh no, You emptied the trash? I thought You said You didn't? Feel somewhat confused. Either way. Did this do anything for You or are You still in the same situation You were in when posting this?

Still no post but feel better for all the help. Thank you all.
Still waiting on support like you said to start with if they got a snapshot or a back up maybe I can get it back

Ok, so I'm still a bit confused. But that's only because of this previous comment of Yours. Either way. If You say it's lost, then I guess it is. But again. Either one of those plugins I mentioned should do the trick of deleted posts. Alternatively, SiteSupport.

Vickie, so sorry. I just knew your post was still in the trash bin. I didn't know that you had deleted it from the Trash bin too. Was that image from Site Support? Dang, I thought I got to you before you went to Site Support! Well, at least they are trying to help you retrieve it. Hopefully, you will get good news from them.

Going forward I will give you a tip that I use. Whenever I delete a post or page I never delete it from the Trash bin right away. That is a lesson I had to learn the hard way too! I never delete anything from the trash bin for at least 90 days. That is a rule I made for myself! I also use that rule for the RECYCLE BIN (which is my Trash Bin on my laptop).

I agree with you. We sure gave it our best shot!!

Looking forward to hearing good news from them!
