My first sale!

Last Update: July 31, 2018

I’m so happy for my biggest achievement so far – my First Sale on Amazon! This means that my website finally sells! Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see my first commission & I’ll immediately explain why.

Last night I got Amazon e-mail informing me about realized commission and some problem with my account mentioning possible reasons that caused the problem. I already new what has caused the “problem”. Due to my not having any result in 180day-period that Amazon gives to all affiliates… , my account became inactive, but, I kept my Amazon affiliate links on blogs/product reviews. They were working properly (I was checking them from time to time). So, Amazon e-mail showed me that someone had purchased from my site.

However, I won’t be able to enjoy my first commission… I don’t mind (actually, I mind a bit), but, what really matters is reaching my first & biggest goal so far– the FIRST Sale!

This is also a proof for me that Affiliate marketing works. Reading about others achievements gives you hope, but… everyone is waiting to have his own experience:) This 1st sale is really a Huge Step in Affiliate marketing. Your commission can be low as 1$, or 50cent - it doesn’t matter. What matters is that your site sells! And… if there’s the first sell, there would be many more…

Keep being focused and persistent. All the best!

Vesna

Congratulations Vesna! The first sale is almost always the hardest, but once its made, you get a sense of enjoyment regardless of how much or how little the amount of money made. Keep working on your site, and the next sale you make you will be able to actually pocket the money.

Unfortunately, I got that dreaded email from Amazon yesterday that my affiliate account was closed due to not meeting the 3 sales in 180 days. This is my fault for signing up to early in this process.

Newbies, don't sign up to be an Amazon affiliate until you have consistent traffic or the same thing will happen to you.

I have already signed up and been approved again so now I get to go thru around 50 posts and update all my Amazon links.

Live and learn. I just wish I didn't always have to learn the hard way.

By the sounds of it, this is pretty unavoidable. As a newbie who write lots of content, wouldnt they have to do this anyway? It is good to know. I have already signed up to Amazon. Think I will continue to write content and not bother with links until I have around 100,000 words or 70 posts up. Then I will refresh amazon account and do what you are doing and pay close attention to the links. thank you for sharing

I understand what you say and how you feel, but, regarding My joining Amazon Associates, I cannot say that I regret it. Actually, the opposite.

As a newbie, you want to see how things work. You cannot learn if you don't try/ test things. Amazon gives you the opportunity to sign in without having a huge traffic, while other famous affiliate platforms ask you to have it... Huge traffic is their condition and you've just started to build your site and business:)
Best regards,
Vesna

I hit that same 180 day thing too. I was wondering if I should remove all of my affiliate links, but now I'm thinking I'll just leave them there. As soon as I get that email from Amazon, I'll know it's time to sign up again, because I'm driving traffic to them. Losing one sale, but having it as a bellwether is a good thing. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Laurie. I have made that decision because... no-matter, if your Amazon account is active/ or not, product reviews without affiliate links, would not provide the best readers experience - Google wouldn't like very much:)

So, I decided to leave them... It was a good decision for one more reason. I was able to follow clicks on my affiliate links. Last two months I noticed more clicks on my links than usual... If you want to have that great tool, too - it's a wp plugin called Thirsty Affiliates.

Awesome and I know that had to be truly the best of feeling and if you have any advice please share because right now I am at that stage of trying to accomplish that goal, plus working on just continuing to know more about the WA system and how it all works in general but again congrats and keep up the good work because we all as a community here need to stay motivated off of each others progress

Training, researching & testing! That's my piece of advice and what we're supposed to do constantly. Also, following your stats is very important. I follow both Google Analytics and Thirsty Affiliates Analytics (it's an excellent plugin for your Affiliate Links).
Wishing you the best of success,
Vesna

Well done Vesna. I've had a commission from another affiliate network but nothing from Amazon yet. Thanks for letting us know about the 180 day thing. Must keep an eye on that.

Thanks. I haven't yet made a sale, but plan to get someone to make about 3 purchases for me before the 6 month period expires.

Be careful with these purchases. Amazon tracking system and rules are very strict. I've read (on Google) that Amazon can block your account if your family or friends purchase... The info is not double-checked, but... Read more regarding Amazon rules. Amazon disclaimer should be on y/r site as well...
