An Important Message from Site Support about Domain Indexing
Hi Folks,
I have received a message from Site Support in response to my query a few days ago regarding Google's indexing of a Domain I own.
I approached Site Support because my understanding was that indexing applies to websites, but not to Domains.
I am sharing the response from Site Support as I feel it is important for all WA members to understand the functioning of Google Bots in respect to Domains that do not have a website installed on them.
The following is what I received from Site Support today.
Hi Valerie,
So this email about being indexed is sent when a google search is made and your site is found in results.
This indexing by Google's bots occurs whether a website is installed on a domain or not. Currently without a website, we show a "hosting space is ready" message. This is currently what Google has indexed.
This just means that Google is aware that this domain is live and will be crawling the site whenever you make changes (or install a wordpress website)
With best wishes.
Valerie

Hi Valerie
All true and my understanding from various Google search advocates (Google employees) is that Google has various varieties of Google Bot, one of which might be called an Indexing Bot which speeds about trying to find and index every URL as soon as they are generated, whether it has content at the time, or not. They then put it into a "crawl queue" for a Crawl Bot to do a more thorough crawl when they get around to it. It's the crawling that makes the difference.

Hi Richard,
Thanks very much for this valuable information. It's very helpful to have this knowledge. So it's now clear that every domain has a place within the search engines whether or not it is accompanied by content. So there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than most are aware of. Excellent information :)
Valerie
Google will eventually discover a domain but if you are concerned, I recommend you take Abie's advice as included in her response to this post.

Hey ValerieJoy! Thank you for sharing the response you received from Site Support regarding Google's indexing of your domain. It's great that you're sharing this information with the Wealthy Affiliate community so that others can understand how Google's bots work in relation to domains without websites.
It's interesting to learn that Google's bots still index domains even if there isn't a website installed on them. The "hosting space is ready" message serves as an indication that the domain is live and Google will continue to crawl the site whenever changes are made or a WordPress website is installed.
Understanding how search engines like Google index domains can be valuable knowledge for all Wealthy Affiliate members. It's important to be aware of how our online presence is recognized and indexed by search engines.
Thank you for sharing this insight, ValerieJoy! If you have any more updates or information to share, feel free to let us know. Wishing you all the best with your online endeavors! 😊
