I've been having problems with my current website and I think it is because it is too broad and scattered. So I've been thinking about starting up a new website and maybe comin

I think that as long as you are the Admin user you can transfer with no issue from google it just may take them time to find the new one and index it.

I see. Thanks! That's a relief

I transferred posts from an old site I had created years ago and simply updated the posts a bit when I brought them to my new site. I have since taken down the old site completely because I feel the new one is much better.

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

Hi Karin,

Thanks for talking with me!

So you didn't have any red flags by Google come up in doing that?

Hi! I just recently started using SiteComments to earn and use credits towards good quality comments. However, I am running a food blog and the recipes have a star rating syste

Yes Tina, recipe ratings would be definitely a ranking factor... except if Google suspects pretend ratings.

If you enjoy the recipes you share, then you can provide the first rating and let those who actually try the recipes rate them for you. Then you will gain benefit.

However, if you are simply sharing untested recipes, Google will soon figure that out... unless your have MANY contributors to your blog that is.

Hope this helps you.

Ok. That's good to know. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I've got some questions specifically regarding building a food blog.

I've gone through all the tutorials up to Level 4 in the Online Entrepreneur Certificat

ME too, my both website have been indexed but still have no rankings in Google. But I do try to promote my website with social media and also traffic exchange.

You may try using traffic exchange method to generate some traffic to your website. As for me, I use Easyhit4u because it is free and quite effective because it is been around since 2003 and still working until today. So my impression for it is quite okayy.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

Hi,
You are on about Rich Snippets I would ask Jessica about these rich snippets as she has a few already in google and bing I do believe.

Her name here is @swangirl she is so lovely and I know she will guide you with this.

Debs :)

Hi Debs. Is she building a food blog specifically?

Labman is right, that is a tough niche. It may take a little more time and effort with the food niche but stay persistent and you'll climb the ranks as you build more content and start to become more of an authority in your niche. Have you narrowed down to a specific food niche like recipes for keto dieters for example? Regardless, I wish you luck on your online journey.

Thanks for taking the time to chat about this!
As for specifics, I’m not doing any specific dietary restriction or anything yet. I was starting to go the route of smoothies/drinks or recipes centered around using a blender. But as an experiment I decided to post some other basic recipes like roasting pumpkin seeds and broiled chicken. And on Pinterest, those have already gotten more attention than any of my smoothie recipes.
So I’m not sure what I should be paying attention to. I’ve done my research and according to Jaaxy there are plenty of searches being done for smoothies and plenty of low QSR but decent traffic keywords out there.

Probably the first factor you are not accounting for is time, and the next is how many post you have published on the site, and after that, is back links. Even though there is little constructive talk on wa concerning backlinks, google relies heavily on how other people are responding to your content and the only way they have to measure this is with backlinks. I have also found that the simplest youtube videos help push my post up and hold them there.....with a backlink from the video to my post....

I can also tell you that I have kindle books of recipes online for several years that continue to make sales. I put them up when I had no idea what I was doing. If I had a food site, I would definitely learn how to publish kindle books with links back to my website inside the kindlebooks for free something.

Hi thanks for talking with me. So if you don’t mind me asking, are you making decent money off those sales?
My goal is to be making $500-1000 a month. Do you think that’s possible with a food blog and recipe books?

It is definitely possible. However the thing not talked about here is the time and effort to make that happen. You will likely need many (many) post to turn your site into an income producing business. But it all starts with one post, right. The thing about content marketing is content! I would never start trying to compete with the food and recipe blogs because they are quite established with mucho money to spend. Instead I would probably start writing post that help people with everything possibly related to cooking. Everything imaginable along with recipes and that would start getting people on the sight. When you start talking about time, you must consider that it's post that make it happen, and how many post can you publish in a week, month, year. Most people leave internet marketing because they have been led to believe it only takes weeks or a few months to make enough money to quit their job and retire to a beach. That is very unlikely! Plan on years, not months, and generally speaking that goes for any niche you choose. It takes much determination, even if you hire content writers. And no, I don't make decent money from my kindle recipe book sales because I started online about 10 years ago, and shortly after that learned how to publish those books to kindle and shortly after stopped fooling with them and went down another rabit trail. and another, and another. That's a mistake, right there. The real key to making money on the web is to choose a venue and make a decision to stay with that one particular method until you die or make money.

Hi Mike!

I see. I'm fine with committing to this blog. I wasn't anticipating making much money for about a year at least. Just like any business really.
What's been bothering me is knowing what to pay attention to. I like to check through Google at what sites they rank when I'm researching a keyword. At least half of the sites that are ranked on the first page have little to no content, star ratings, or comments. Just recipes and yet they outrank me. I always post about 1,000 words plus my recipe, I have some comments, and some star ratings as well. So it begs the questions.
Why are they taking the top page and outranking me? What am I doing wrong? (These are just rhetorical)

I guess my questions to you is this. My site has been officially running with 2-3 post published a week for about 3-4 months now.
So is my problem time? I'm still a new kid on the block?

I really appreciate you taking the time to talk with me about this. I'd rather keep going with what I have then start over.

Valentina

Food Recipies are dominated by a few gigantic websites. It will be difficult to rank above these. Keep posting original content and you will begin to rise to the top but this is a difficult niche to break through with.

Hi Labman thanks for talking to me. I’m not opposed to the work involved. My concern now would be if it’s worth it. Do you know if there is good money to be made doing this?

I haven't worked in that niche so I can't say on the particulars. Any niche can be profitable with the right effort.

Hey everyone. I have been working on this for over a day and I cannot figure out why I don't have a sitemap.

I have watched the walk-through by both Jay and Kyle. Set up

Hi Tina,
How many posts have you published so far?
Do you have a Google WebMaster Tools account set up?
Let me know and I will try to help you gain resolution.

Gary

Hi Gary!

I have published 10 posts including my "About Me".

I have already set up my webmaster account as well.

Any help is VERY welcome! Thanks!
Tina

Tina,

It sounds as though you have exhausted all avenues. You followed Kyle and Jay step by step, I really could not offer anymore other than to contact Site Support here;
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

I would be curious what your WebMaster Tools says in your dashboard under the Sitemaps on the far right?
This is a quick view from one of my websites http://take.ms/pgRzA

Please let me know how you make out Tina, I am a technician by trade and usually have complete access to resolve issues so this is perplexing for me...

My best regards,
Gary

Hi Gary!

I got in touch with Site Support and they did the secret handshake. Now it is working perfectly! Just tested with Google. I have no clue what they did.

Thanks for your help!
Tina

Tina,

I am pretty decent technically, but from your description, it sounded like you had something conflicting with a plugin or on the Server side of settings?
Regardless I am happy you gained resolution, now it is time to write, write and write some more!!
My best regards,
Gary
