From your experience, what is the best way to improve site experience?

Hi! Ruby,

You can use this simple solution which is free.

- Here is a free link to solve the image issues, use of plugins has to pay money to get good results. https://bulkresizephotos.com/en
- Set all images within this dimension so it can be easier to compress lighter below 35KB. 630-680 width and 400-450 height, then compress it. If still above 35KB, reduce the image dimension.

- Install Autoptimizer plugin, but do not go for the Pro until you have earnings to pay for it. I will send you the plugin settings in your profile.

- With the settings added, you can solve all JS & CSS, 3rd party JS, and LCN image. This setting matches very well with the WA server and optimize support. WA already have a page cache so does not enable the cache functions.

- At the post edit page, you have to copy the featured image address and paste it on the LCN image to preload box. And tick all Autoptimizer settings. Test every post page speed, if poor you can click generate critical CSS, which I never need to do.

I reply you because WA forward the your questions to me.

If your site opens fast enough, that's all that matters, I guess.

It really depends. What is your website URL, and what sort of scores are you currently getting on your website?

Those things you mentioned are pretty normal and aren't necessarily things you need to worried about, so I wouldn't fret too much here. ;)

Hey Ruby,

Largest Contentful Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift are usually image-related.

Total Blocking time is usually Javascript and CSS related.

Okay, for the Largest Contentful Paint, this will usually be the loading time of the largest image that is visible when people first enter your website.

Something I have been saying for YEARS to people is to NOT have a massive header image until you can afford premium plugins that can properly optimize this.

So, if you have a massive header image get rid of it for now.

Slow speeds mean potentially lower rankings in the search results, so making a "website look pretty" is pointless if you're not getting any visitors.

Most websites with flashy designs will pay for various things to keep speed up.

So, when starting out, keep everything simple and plain.

Get rankings and traffic FIRST, worry about design later.

The Cumulative Layout Shift will probably be due to your image optimization plugin.

Are you using Kraken as your image optimizer plugin?

I know Kraken is pre-installed on WA sites, and regardless of how "great" people think it may be, I think it's terrible.

I believe Wealthy Affiliate will soon be moving in the direction of the

EWWW Image Optimizer

Another decent image optimizer plugin is Smush.

So, you can install and activate either one of these plugins and then deactivate and delete Kraken (always just have ONE image optimization plugin).

As for your total blocking time, you can install and activate a plugin called

Autoptimize

This will delay/defer Javascript and CSS (don't worry, you don't really need to know what these are, but a little Google or YouTube research never did anyone any harm).

And these will hopefully improve your website speed and your Google Pagespeed Insights report.

Partha

It can be due to a bad theme.
Also make sure you activate site speed here on wa in the setting details of your website

Good call :)

A while ago, I created a website called Gentle-Gestures. I didn't realise at the time that there was another business/website called GentleGestures.

I realised that thi

You can change the URL of a premium domain name - if you made a mistake, you would need to purchase a new one.

Good job you caught it in time :) You will lose traffic to them as well.

Is it a proper dot com domain name or a siterubix sub-domain. If it's a dot com, no you can't. You would need to register a new domain name and then transfer the old website to it.

Yeah, it's a dot com so I'll be keeping it. Thanks for your help.

Yes, you should be able too!

Jeff

Why would you want to change it if it is performing exceptionally well? Is the content on the other site a replica of yours or different? If you change the domain, you start over pretty much, and then it takes all that time to get it indexed and then copy all of the 50 posts that already got indexed. It would be duplicate content. So, if you start another domain, it has to have different content. You would have to pay 15.99 for another one. I would keep it as it is.

The content is a little similar but not quite the same, it's in the same niche but theirs is more of a business compared to a blog.

Do you think it's alright to keep it as is then? I just don't want to accidentally misdirect traffic and confuse people.

I see, I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me or I really would have ended up making the same mistake! Thanks a lot.

I would change it as you find you may lose traffic to the site without the dash :)

Thank you guys! It's all fixed now :)

Fantastic, that has happened to us all at some time

You may need to empty the browser cache, refresh, and try again. Try the URL in a different browser or mobile device.

You can also empty the servers cache.

Hey guys,
I'm currently working on setting up google site console and the recommended method for me is the HDML file upload.

The instructions say to upload it onto

Also, here, is Jay's live webinar I hope you get it figured out.

Thank you so much, hopefully today I'll finally get it finished, haha.

That's wonderful Ruby, and keep us updated on your progress.

I can make a video and show it to you, but you would have to enter your website FTP account. It isn't hard but you would need https://winscp.net/eng/download.php software, and not change anything else except adding the ads.txt file to your website folders. If you think you can do it ask me here, and I will make a quick video on my dummy website.

I would appreciate that! I'm still having trouble understanding how to transfer the file, haha.

Ok I will make one for you. Just so you know, after you do everything, you'll have to wait a couple of business days for it to work.

Alright that's fine.:)
Thank you so much.

ok. I'll give you the video in a maximum of an hour.

Thank you, but no rush, please take your time.:)

This is my first class video, otherwise, I upload them to youtube. Tell me if you can't open the video.

Hey Ruby,

I personally would not follow what Phil said - if you don't understand stand what your doing, you could end up causing harm to your site playing around with FTP and adding files to your root directory (especially if you don't know how to do it).

This is why we have a SiteSupport here - Just click on the "Help" button above, and contact SiteSupport. They'll be able to do this for you, if you want it uploaded to the root directory (Root directory is just a fancy phrase for your main/first folder for your site).

However, there are easier ways to do this. Each site now comes pre-installed with a plugin called "Google Site Kit", where you can easily add the Google Search Console code into it, so that you are able to do it all yourself. Without FTP and without Site Support. Kyle walks you through it all right here: Feel free to reply to this if you have any other questions :D

Oh, I see.
I actually really appreciate your comment, I haven't done it yet because I was totally confused by the system, haha.

I'll look into what you said and contact site support if I'm still confused.
Thanks a bunch!!

Not a problem! To be fair, Phil worked IT all his life, so he knows exactly what he's doing, and it is fairly easy to do it, if you know what your doing. Clearly, you don't, haha (Not offense meant).

You've got a solid mentor - https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kevinmj/profile - the one who referred you to WA. If you have more questions here that you don't get good answers to in these public places, then reach out to him directly via PM.

And if he doesn't answer for some reason, just PM me - I'll always help out a brother or sister of Wealthy Affiliate :D

Much appreciated:)

If you have FileZilla, you can upload it directly to your site's root directory. Also, it's html (not hdml). It stands for hyper text markup protocol.

Haha, whoops. Thanks for the correction, I didn't even notice!
I really appreciate the help, I'll look into that now.

Good luck with it. FileZilla is a useful tool to have.
