If it were me, and if I were looking for a focus keyword for a site, I would look for at least 1000 exact searches a month with low competition.

Let's say you find that the phrase "unique gift ideas for mom" has 1000 exact searches per month, and a low competition. Then you could try and register a domain like uniquegiftideasformom.com, or something like that. Write one main article on your site with that as the focus keyword.

Then you could go back into your keyword program and find more related keywords, but your minimum traffic would be lower for these additional articles, like 100 or more searches per month, but you also want very low competition on these.

You want to pick the keywords you have a chance to rank for , which would most likely be the low competition keywords . the higher the search volume of the keywords the higher will be your competition.

you really want both, a combination of high searches and low competition. Try to get the best you can out of both.
