Site comments vs Site feedback

Hello everyone, and happy new year!

Today, I took some time to try out both Site feedback and comments exchange system here on WA. I am sure that all WA affiliates have the best intentions in mind while leaving comments and feedback, but many are doing it wrong and I think this has to be said.

I have impression, that most of the people don't understand the difference between the purpose of comments and feedback. That is based on the feedback from other WA members, I was able to see, after I submitted my own, and from the comments I saw on numerous websites.

In general, many comments were more like an overall website design feedback - "Your website is great, I love this I love that", which can't harm the website, but, it is pretty much useless, because it doesn't engage the publisher's content at all. On the other hand, a feedback, where you just give "kudos", are complete waste of your WA fellow's credits.

That is not good. I did a feedback for 2 websites, that are far, far away from good, and I saw bunch of positive feedback. You are not doing any favors to the publisher with fake positive feedback. If it is hard for you to criticize other's hard work, don't leave a feedback at all. Even if it is a decent website, you should leave some insights on how would you done things. At the end of the day, people will do what they think is best for their website. When you leave a feedback, you should provide them with ideas, and your opinion.

Feedback can't be seen by website visitors, or anyone else, except you and people who did the feedback. So, you can't ruin someones work, or do any harm by leaving a negative feedback!

So, to summarize:

Comments are there to speed up rankings, and to ''dress up'' your WA fellow's website for upcoming visitors to look like it already have a steady flow of visitors even before it is ranked higher in search engines. You post should engage the publisher's content! The best thing to do is to leave some kind of question, and give the admin a chance to leave some content rich replay, and not just "Thank you!"

Feedback is there to point out the possible mistakes your WA fellow made on the website, or offer new ideas or different approach. If you are beginner, you should not leave a feedback just to earn credits. You can earn the same type of credits by leaving comments!

I wish you all a lot of success in 2018!

Well said Tsudar. At a glance it is quite confusing which one should be used.

thanks for pointing out this article out to me in another post. I'm definitely adding this to share with others in WA when they ask questions about comments and feedback.

Please do so, and thanks. I just received a completely useless feedback on my website.
"We all have our place on earth... Some have more talents than others... It is all about what we can do together to help the ones next to us we meet in this life, to make a better world... one day at a time... Thank you for reminding me of the talents we all have within us, if we continue to put those talents to good use. Our minds and our muscles continue to rebuild if we use them."
I know that person had the best intentions in mind, but this is completely unacceptable...
I am getting more and more unsatisfied with SiteFeedback feature.
I really think that Kyle and Carson should do something about this...

Hey totally relate to this issue. I too have wished for better criticism on my website. It helps you see things from someone else's perspective. I always aim to give good and bad feedback and always revisit to see if there have been any changes. I think it's been the best teaching part of this course for me - seeing someone else try and immediately knowing what you should and shouldn't do.

As to meaningful comments. I have been fortunate and have had some really good ones. Only one got mixed up with feedback.

Great Blog Post!

Have you had lots of mix-ups? Is this why you have raised the issue?

Exactly!

As feedbacks & comments to me go, I haven't had any, because I didn't request yet. And the reason I didn't is because I saw tons of mix-ups on both comments and feedback sections.

And that is the reason why I made this post. Over 50% comments (at least over 50% comments that I saw) are just feedbacks, and literally over 90% (again, 90% of what I have seen) feedbacks are just useless 'kudos'.

I only wish I had bigger network so this could reach more people.

Thank you very much for taking a time to read and leave a comment here.

It is very frustrating.

But cheer up! Perhaps you could make your mark by welcoming newer ones and giving them a few tips that would help them do better. This could also lead to a greater following.

It's usually the newbies that are just in the beginnings of their journey that are needing to tick off a step in the course and haven't a clue. This of course changes after they begin to understand the whole process and work with their own site.

Wishing you many good comments in the future! :-)

This is a continuous battle. People often times get confused with website feedback versus leaving a comment on a post. I get people that critique my site when I am asking for comments on my post. The best thing you can do is not approve the comments and give the person feedback as to why.

Well, I am probably going to have to... I mean, I really don't want to disapprove someone's comment, and ruin their overall score / history, or whatever - statistic :D. That is why I did this post. But unfortunately, my network is not that big, and I am afraid this post will not reach many members...
