Some food items have Potential Antidepressant Effect than Others.

1. Why is Omega 3 fatty acid great for prevention and for treatment of depression?

Clinical studies indicate that Omega 3 fatty acids provide a range of neurobiological activities through modulation of neurotransmitters, by creating anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation and neuroplasticity effects, which in turn contributes to the psychotropic effects.

If you know someone who is high-risk for depression or already suffering from depression, researchers recommend to regularly eat food with high Omega 3 fatty acid because they are safe and yet effective natural ingredients.

According to some studies, about 10 % - 20 percent of childbearing age women experience postpartum depression.

Consuming an adequate amount of omega 3 fatty acids can help you prevent postpartum depression.

2. What are the best food sources?

Some of the Best food sources of omega 3 fatty acids are:

Fish and other seafood such as: Mackerel, salmon, tuna, herring fish, Cod Liver Oil, fish oil supplement, and sardines; flax seeds and flax seed oil, walnut and soybeans.

Omega-3 content of Flax whole seed is = 2,350 mg per tablespoon and

Omega-3 content of Flaxseed Oil is = 7,260 mg per tablespoon.

3. How much Omega 3 Fatty Acid per day is safe?

According to some experts, high doses of omega-3, ranging from 200–2,200 mg per day, is considered as Safe daily value for depression and it can reduce symptoms of depression and also lowers the risk of depression.

I want to be clear that Omega 3 fatty Acid does not replace Antidepressant medication prescribed by Psychiatrist. Always consult your psychiatrist if you choose to stop antidepressant medication.
