Hi WA family, hope you all are doing well.

Today I want to share some good stuff about how to prevent kidney stones, I am all about PREVENTION... enjoy reading!

Exact common causes can be a little difficult to identify, and the causes vary from person to person.

Common risk factors include but not limited to: the type of diet you eat, excessive body weight, some preexisting medical health conditions, some medications and supplements, concentrated urine also allows the minerals in the concentrated urine to crystallize and stick together then it becomes a stone according to MayoClinic.

Most of the risk factors are preventable, you just need to pay attention to what you eat, control your weight by exercising, make sure not to let your urine become concentrated by drinking more water and by urinating on time.

Know your medications and your supplements if they increase the risk of having kidney stones, ask your doctor and educate yourself as well.

Food to avoid includes too many salty foods and meats and other animal protein.

Do you know what type of kidney stone you have?

Be sure to ask your doctor so you know how to prevent them:)

For example,

If your kidney stone is Calcium Oxalate Stone, which is the most common type of kidney stone, then you have to be cautious with food high in oxalate such as: Spinach, Beets, Baked potatoes with skin, Rhubarb, Cocoa powder, Almonds and cashews.

Do you know that if your calcium intake is low, your oxalate levels may rise?! Yes, it does!

Oxalate is naturally found in many foods items as listed above. Some fruits and vegetables, as well as nuts and chocolate, have high oxalate levels.

Oxalate is also produced naturally by your liver.

So, you have to understand the presence of adequate amounts of calcium work hand in hand with oxalate so that the stone formation won’t occur.

Common Misunderstanding/ Misconception!

Milk, cheese and other dairy products don’t cause kidney stones. Rather, low calcium and high oxalate level combined can lead to kidney stone formation.

In addition, calcium is a very important mineral for your body and making sure you consume a recommended daily amount of calcium, for normal adults 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams of calcium every day is ideal. Food sources of calcium are safer than supplements.

Calcium rich food: milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, and other types of cheeses.

Also, remember to add some kind of calcium rich food when you consume food high in oxalate such as spinach, almonds, beets etc… see above for more.

Healthy lifestyles such as exercising, drinking more water and urinating on time, balancing our food, consuming adequate amounts of calcium and avoiding excessive consumption of high oxalate food are the best ways to reduce the risk of kidney stones.

Living a healthy lifestyle is always a choice!

Feel free to ask any question, and to leave a comment if you wish to.

Stay safe and be well.

Thanks my friends.
