Keep Paying it Forward: During Unprecedented Times
Keep Paying it Forward
April 18, 2020
We are seeing unprecedented times today. I pray every day for those that are being affected by this world pandemic. This time has given me much time to reflect my life and I am seeing the world differently, wondering how we will pull out of this.
During my reflection, I remembered something that inspired me many years ago. I am sure many of you have heard the term “pay it forward”. Pay it Forward is a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde in 1999, followed by the movie in 2000, which was my inspiration. I was so inspired; I now live by this philosophy.
For those of you who might not have of heard of this term. The Idea is that someone performs a good deed or a small act of kindness. Rather than the recipient paying the good deed back to the person who performed it. The recipient agrees to pay a good deed forward to someone else. The Google dictionary defines the term as: “respond to a person's kindness to oneself by being kind to someone else”. If you have not seen the movie or read the book, you should, it is a great story.
Many, many lives have been changed one way or the other, due to this new virus. People are losing their lives and loved ones. Many are on the front lines battling to save lives and many of us are at home doing the best we can to keep our lives moving along. Personally, I am proud to say that I have seen the “pay it forward” philosophy at play throughout the Country and even around the world.
Sadly, I have seen the negative side of things as well. As, a country I believe we can do better during this time of crises. Not only now, but in the future, during our recovery from this, as well. We need to remember we are all in this together. We need to remember the doctors and nurses out there making the sacrifices, the food service workers out there keeping the stores and shelves stocked, the truck drivers and shipping companies.
So, I will end with this. We will get through this, and it will happen by working together. So, when it is all over and we are picking up the pieces. We need to remember those who were lost and those who made the sacrifices to help get us through this time of crisis. And that is all of us, united. Remember to keep paying it forward and help anyone you can help no matter how small the task may seem. To someone who needs it, it can mean the world to them.
And...
Remember to stay happy, Healthy and whole.
