Hello everyone.

Finally, I have finished my About Me page. It took a whole lot longer than I expected. I wrote, re-wrote, reduced, added, re-wrote again ... and finally,

Hi Lisa,

I like your "about me" page, it's obviously written from the heart and with your experience as an adult sufferer very much to the fore....this will resonate with your readers/visitors when you start to get some through Kyle's training.

I'm a bit of a stickler for spelling and grammar and I'm so pleased to say that I spotted very few of each in your text....I would recommend you proof read the page again to see if you can spot them but if you can't (separating the wood from the trees comes to mind), I'll point them out for you.

A couple of things, I think you should have a few headings to break up your page a little bit...paragraphs are fine but they can sometimes all melt into one. Also worth remembering that H2,H3 and H4 headings can help with google's ranking of your page (you'll see the heading options in the drop down menu at the top left of your edit page in WP).

Also, you should install or enable the feature within your theme to have comments on the bottom of your page from your readers and write a phrase at the bottom of it to encourage them to do so. Having an email address to contact you will do nothing for ongoing engagement with your visitors but an ever growing list of comments at the bottom of each page will help your rankings because it is automatically seen by google as fresh content...(and Kyle says to!!)

From a personal point if view, I'd justify your text. Maybe it's just me but I think it makes for a tidier look rather than having a ragged edge to your content.

All simple and quick things to do but an excellent start and that elephant gets eaten one bite at a time!!

Well done Lisa, go and do some more now..
Mark

ps...quick question that I would have left as a comment for you....do you still keep an inhaler with you in case of emergencies or are you confident enough now to do without one?

Hi Mark,

I hope you have some sort of idea what getting such detailed feedback means to me. It is exactly what I hoped for - good sound critique and advice. It feels very good to know you think it is a good page as writing is very new to me and I aspire to be good at it.

Like you, I am also a stickler for grammar and spelling and I find myself looking forward, with some element of glee (sad but true), to finding those "those needles in my haystack". I will get back to you just to make sure I have found all of them.

I will implement the changes you recommend as i can relate to what you advise. I haven't heard about the "H" headings but your explanation sounds clear enough so i will try first at it before asking for help.

Again - thank you for your feedback ... and you now have a true follower. I feel pushed to do better ... and that is good.

In the first year following the attack I had at least 5 Ventolin inhalers on the go, Symbicort and I ALWAYS had prednisolone on me. I had Ventolin at work, in the car, in my handbag, in my daughter's school bag, in my son's nursery bag, at a friend's house and in each room of my home.

Now, after such a good year I have relaxed ... a lot ... not because I am exceptionally brave but more, because I have a good understanding of what could increase my chances of my asthma being triggered AND how to manage it if it starts to raise its head.

So, to answer your question - Yes - I do feel more confident now to the point I do not always have an inhaler to hand. I also have a backup - bromelain. I use this - asap - if I feel any tightness, no matter how mild. I would quicker have a bromelain capsule on me than Ventolin.

I look forward to chatting with you in the future.

Lisa

Hi Lisa, I'm glad you appreciated my look at your site...I was happy to do it and the fact you were so pleased makes it very much worthwhile so thanks for your kind comments.

Glad to hear you have got your asthma under "control" to the degree that you mention, it must be very different and much better for you now.

Those H headings are easy to do, you'll get it no problem so good luck and if I can help again, just let me know...either here, on my profile or you can pm me if you prefer.

Regards
Mark

nice Lisa, adult asthma. I had no idea there was such a thing. God Bless You my Friend.

Hi Tony,

Thanks so much for connecting with me-it is a privilege to be part of your network. Also, thanks for the feedback. And, like you, until it happened to me I did not know you could get asthma as an adult. I always assumed it came in childhood!

I like your website - I have always thought that so much more should be there for VETs.

All the best,

Lisa

Hello Everyone,

My understanding is that when a page is created in Wordpress it goes to the top of your page .. as part of your menu and that POSTS usually go to your Homepa

My page is set to open on the latest post. What happens to the previous post and how are they accessed? I suppose I will have to set that up to see all posts?

If you haven't customize your front page, it will display a blog roll. This means that the latest post is at the top of the page, scrolling down you'll see the previous posts.
If you go to settings reading will see a checkbox that will display your full posts or an excerpt of the post. You can change this to show less than the full post. This will give people incentive to click through to read the full post.

Here's a tutorial on how to create an excerpt.

Thanks Labman got it.

Hi Lisa not a Wordpress expert but I suspect that you have your setting such that your home page displays PAGES and not POSTS.

Inside Wordpress check Settings > Reading . Front Page Display
It is probably set at 'A Static Page'
Just change to Posts

Hope this helps

Hi ct - you may not be an expert in Wordpress but you know more than I . However ... I have checked and the front page display is set to "posts". I am still trying!

Hi again. Sorry that did not work.
There is another option to do with the theme itself.
From your main WP menu pick Appearance > Customize and a sidebar will openup with a number of options for your theme.
One of them is Static Front Page. Here you have the option to choose a Static Front page or your latest posts.
See how you go with this.
Hope it works this time :)

Hi - thanks for the suggestions. I will implement them as soon as I awake ... and let you know how if it worked. Also, thanks for adding me to your network. I appreciate it.

Regards,

lisa

Hi Lisa
- and a footnote. What I describe above was specific for the Omega theme you were using. That is the one that Jason used in his scam site. Other themes may have iffernt options

Hi,
this can be a bit different depending on your theme.

On your dashboard, go to "Settings" -> "Reading".
There you can set what the front page displays.
It can either be a static front page or your latest blog.

What does it say there for your?

Change it to "latest blog" when you want a blog roll.

Does this solve your problem?
If not I would need to know your theme.

Moritz

Hi,

I have checked and on the Reading Page it says the Front page displays "your latest posts" (there is a red dot in the circle to select this option). The other option of "a static page" is not enabled.
From what you have said it is on the correct setting.
The theme is Omega Wordpress theme by Themehall.

Lisa

I just installed the theme on a testpage and it worked as it should.
Maybe you accidentely deleted or changed something to cause this error!?

You can either contact SiteSupport to ask for their help, or you can do the following:

First make a backup of your site (VERY IMPORTANT): Then change your theme to another theme (doesn't matter which theme).
Delete the omega theme completely.
Install and activate the omega theme again.
See if it works with the pages normally now.

Let me know how it goes.

Moritz
