I find coffee breaks are a great time for putting your brain in neutral, and casually looking at, and reflecting on, things that have been said or have happened. This was the case yesterday, regarding a comment a friend of mine had made, “Why do you bother spending so much time on your computer, when you could be like me, a do nothing now you’re retired”. Had I of answered, it would not have been a straightforward one.

I have read many profiles here at WA, and I am so impressed by the numbers of selfless members, who are basically here so they can help others, that it makes me feel a little guilty, as I am only here to help myself, but saying that of course I will help another member here at WA if I can. I need to feel alive again, and I know that might sound strange, but I have always served life very close to the line. All my adult life I have been an adrenalin junkie, and although now my body can’t do what it could, my brain still wants its fix, I believe it still thinks it’s a thirty something.

I know there are things I used to get a rush from that I just can’t do anymore, racing, base jumping, but my biggest love I still can do, flying. For years I held a Private Pilot’s Licence, but my real love was flying gliders. To be able to cover a course of 2, 3 or even 4oo kilometres without an engine, at high speed, was always such a rush, even just flying about looking at different places was a blast. Now when I look out the window at a brilliant summer sky, it’s not the easy flights that come to mind, it’s the hard ones, where you have had to use all your skill and knowledge just to stay airborne, and then make it back to your home site, they are the ones you remember.

I think that relates to life in general, that old saying, “easy come easy go” is so very true, but the things we work hard to achieve are always much more valuable to us. This I think also relates to internet marketing, those who have a problem, or can’t find an easy solution and give up, make up part of the 97% who fail. The people, who find a problem, but dig in and find an answer, and who are truly determined, make up the other 3% who achieve their goals, and I am sure most of them are here at WA. That being said I still want to fly again, it’s that moment just as the aircraft leaves the ground, and comes alive, that is true magic, because you also really feel alive, as the air moves over the wings, and you climb into the summer sky.

Hi Trev, I really enjoyed your blog. Like you, I felt as though my life was slowly and comfortably moving towards death and I needed something to give me a kick up the bum, so to speak.
This WA community has certainly done that. I may not be looking over the edge of the grand canyon or galloping through a forest on my horse, but I'm certainly on the edge of my seat waiting to see if Google has put my site on page 1!
How wonderful that you are a pilot and love to fly and you're right it is the exciting and life threatening situations that come back to you as fond memories. Even if you don't pilot a craft anymore? I sincerely hope you are still regularly flying. Good luck to you with your endeavours. Ches

I strongly believe age is a state of mind, and I always try and think young. Lucky you having a horse, I used to love riding, horses are wonderful. Best wishes Chessie for your future, think young!
