I’m convinced! How do I make the switch?

The hardest part is done. Coming to the realization that a change is needed is similar to what an alcoholic goes through before he or she can be successfully treated.

Now, do the following:

  1. Take full ownership responsibility for your own destiny and your WA business.
  2. Develop a vision and mission statement for your life and for your business.
  3. Avoid procrastination — take immediate action.
  4. Never fear making mistakes — learn from them.
  5. Conduct some self-study in the art of sales and business interaction — become a “solver”, not a seller.
  6. Never confine yourself to the “box” — don’t just think outside the box, step out of it every once in a while.
  7. See every problem as a challenge — become solution oriented.
  8. Seek help when needed — we all do from time to time.
  9. Don’t allow what you cannot change to paralyze you — focus on what you can do.
  10. Don’t stagnate — remember that “No matter how well it is currently being done, it can almost always be done better, faster, or more efficiently."

Years of workng for other people is bound to have a big impact on a persons brain. When you arrive, when you can leave, when you take holidays, when you have your tea break / lunch break, who you can speak to and how you address them are just some of the restrictions placed on employees. That is before you even consider appraisals, reviews, promotions, transfers, threat of redundancy etc. Is it any wonder that employees have a different mindset?

Thank you acoolmil. You are exactly right, which makes it difficult for some to ever change. However, I firmly believe that EVERYONE can be motivated to change whenever they reach a point in life where it is more painful to remain where they are than it is to make necessary changes to improve their lot.

Thanks for the encouragement, Joshua and the reminders about why we are here and what we are going to achieve if we stick it out.

Thanks AnnieB. That is what is so great about this community. Although we are all striving to become our best and are working hard to attain some level of success, we don't do so at the expense of others. The level of commitment to share knowledge and to encourage one another within WA is unlike anything I have ever seen in 60 years of life. And, I mean that sincerely!

Hi Shields. Thanks. That is what we are all striving for (successful life). Unfortunately, it eludes so many because of what's been called, "Stinkin Thinkin."

You are so right on. This is more critical than which path we take to get there. Mindset is what allows us to stay on the path.

Thanks. Your point is well taken. We can always make a course correction if we are on the wrong path. However, maintaining the wrong mindset will cause us to make wrong choices when we encounter the inevitable forks in the road.
