A person visits the internet to find out information on a particular subject.

If they find you, they have no loyalty to your article and will browse away from you at the first opportunity. So how do you retain them?

Well let's start off by understanding them.

14 seconds - on average that's the time a Web page is viewed for. If your page has graphics and loads slowly, you've lost a large proportion of potential customers. Not everyone has the same broadband speed or PC spec as you.

Readers don't read. They scan, picking out individual words or sentences. Your content should be instantly scannable.

F for fast. Eyetracking studies show pages are read in an F shape. So make sure the good content is in the first paragraph and break it up with good subtitles and bullet points part way through.

Teenagers have especially poor reading skills and low patience levels.

Have a credible Bio. Readers will stay if the article is credible. They validate your credibility by visiting the Bio.

And, you'll not like me saying this

... Readers do not like boastful exaggerated claims like "best ever". They're already exceedingly sceptical and this acts as a total switch off and blows your credibility.

I'm going to print these reminders up and use them as a checklist as I write my articles. I think you covered all the bases, and without being long-winded. That's a bonus for me!
