Let's start with the WHY part ...

To put it simply: an estimated reading time encourages users to read a blog post instead of clicking away.

Here's the thing ... We, website owners are obsessed about getting more and more traffic ... And that's perfectly understandable especially in the early stages ...

The problem? We tend to forget that the almighty traffic is just one component in a complex equation.

And I'll give you just one example: we also need to increase (and maintain!) the time each user spends on our website(s).

That's the only way to improve user engagement, to build loyalty and eventually to boost conversions.

Needless to say, user engagement is another complex game with many factors and tricks involved.

But there is an extremely simple and efficient method that can help you to increase user engagement: adding an estimated reading time (in plain text) to your posts. Which will allow you to encourage your visitors by telling them that it will only take a few minutes of their time to read your article.

So I've decided to create this short tutorial to show you how easy is to add an estimated reading time to your Wordpress posts.

Very interesting, would be good to see which posts engage readers for longest allowing lessons to be learnt to put into action in future posts.
Thanks

One thing that puzzles me...it seems that writing longer posts will cause more readers to quit before they finish reading. Thoughts?

I disagree my friend ... If your content is boring they will leave after reading the first three paragraphs ... If your content is interesting and helpful, they will read it regardless of its length ...
