I hope that this has explained propagation in a way that a lot of people can understand. Always remember, propagation can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to complete to all the servers. I know this is frustrating because you are so excited to go and then WHAMMMMMMM you hit a brick wall for a short period of time. It is a growing pain that everyone who sets up a website goes through.
Use this time to draw up a plan on your layout and how you want your site to look. Get a step ahead so that when you can finally access your domain, you have a plan of action and can out it into action right away.
Please, let me know if this explanation is a bit confusing and I will try to make it as easy as possible to understand.
Just imagine a bouncing ball. You know, like the one that use to bounce along to children's songs when we were little. Once the bouncing ball reaches the end of the line, the DNS is updated on that server and it moves on to the next server needing updated.
Best of luck with your sites and I am here if anyone ever needs me :)
When I joined WA, I decided to move to move my domain to WA and move my content to Wordpress so I could follow the course. I do not regret the change for one second, however at the time I just wanted to get into the Wordpress but couldn't get started until my domain was transferred and hosted with WA.
Your article is awesome because it will let people know about this delay before it happens and they won't think something is wrong. Have a great day. Dave
A DNS change for example... or updating WHOIS information... these changes of information have to be propagated through a number of servers before it's available everywhere
So you may order a new Domain Name but your new domain and website may not be visible to all until millions of servers have been updated with this new change.
