There are so many acronyms floating around in the IT world that it is so hard to keep up. Here are a few that are very important to this lesson:
ISP - Internet Service Provider - The company that you use to connect to the web.
IP Address - Internet Protocol. Every machine on the web has an IP address assigned to them. It lets the world wide web know what server your information is located on. IP Protocol is the language that allows your computer to communicate back and forth with the web. IP addresses are usually assigned to each computer by the ISP they are connected to.
DNS - Domain NameServer
Once you purchase a domain, you are then going to have to host it on a server somewhere in the world. There are so many choices to pick from. I use Site5.com myself.
When I joined WA, I decided to move to move my domain to WA and move my content to Wordpress so I could follow the course. I do not regret the change for one second, however at the time I just wanted to get into the Wordpress but couldn't get started until my domain was transferred and hosted with WA.

A DNS change for example... or updating WHOIS information... these changes of information have to be propagated through a number of servers before it's available everywhere
So you may order a new Domain Name but your new domain and website may not be visible to all until millions of servers have been updated with this new change.
