http://codex.wordpress.org/Widgets_SubPanel These are some of the things I ran into with the initial set. Up.

I have never used WordPress before, so there are questions here that might be basic. I SHOULD have taken the time and found some kind of basic Word Press starting guide somewhere!

  1. I cannot see how to change the font size and color on the pages.
    1. There is an icon at the end of the tool bar, put your cursor over it, and it says "Kitchen Sink". Click it and the rest of the Icon choices will pop up. It is Magical!
  2. Is there a privacy page on here? I do not see it in the Menu.
    1. There is a privacy page they created for us. It just is not on the main menu. They have links to it after each of the sign up boxes for Mad Marketing Method.
    2. If you want it to show up on the menu, open the "page" section and open "Privacy Policy" and down on the right hand corner click the box that says whether to exclude a page from the menus or not.
  3. Could I make the privacy page one of those links I see at the bottom of pages on other sites?
    1. Somehow, there is a way to take a page you create and move it to a widget, in this case the bottom of the page widget and it will look like an anchor link. Do not ask me how-- experimentation I fear.
    2. Remember the main purpose of a privacy page is the legal thing, and therefore something Google spiders look for in websites.
  4. Widgets
    1. What in the world is Askimet?
      1. It is a plug in that prevents scam in the blog comments. It also is listed as a widget.
      2. As for the Askimet plugin, dragging this to your sidebar will show spam associate data on your blog, and you don't have to do this if you don't want to. It still functions without being on your live site, so no need to put it there if you don't want to.
    2. On the widget set up page there are side bar things that say left and right, top and bottom where you are supposed to move widgets to for them to show on the blog. The blog does not have a left side bar, so why is there a place that says left side bar to move thing to?
      1. Mystery! Just ignore it anddo not put any thing there. No idea why it is there or what would happen if you tried to put something in.
      2. I assume there is a way to make the side bar on the left only, or to have side bars both directions, but for now, leave it like it is.
      3. The WA template is set up for two columns, so they are the only ones to use. That option is there if you were to choose a three column template.
    3. Are you supposed to use all of the widgets that are there? the directions say to move them to the side bar places you want.
      1. Mystery #2
      2. Some of them are obvious, like the archive, blog posts, search tool, page links. some are pre-set with the sign up for the Mad Marketing Method. Move them where you like the look, side bottom, side top etc.
      3. Others I have no idea what to do with, I just stare at the page.
      4. The RSS thing is a feed I think where you could bring in other blog posts, it helps with and keeping fresh content, but I have no idea how it works with this thing.
      5. Here is a Wordpress tutorial on Widgets http://codex.wordpress.org/Widgets_SubPanel
      6. YouTube is chock full of video tutorials as well--worth the time.
    4. Is a plug in a widget?
      1. No idea, I think the things we need are there. The rest are things we will learn about as we master this whole thing.
      2. Marcus told me we do not need the Hello Dolly plug in, so if it is there to delete it.
      3. Plug ins are separate, and some can function as a widget. Allin One SEO and Google Analytics are two highly recommended plug-ins.
      4. They are included in WordPress Express, but i do not think they are (yet) on WA Blog.

You want to delete the Hello Dolly plug in.

Plug ins are separate from widgets. There are hundreds of them.

Hi! Just attended a webinar on Aweber. In regards to your first question Personalize {name_fix} means that when you send out you e-mail the persons name that was entered into the request form will be used in your answering e-mail to them so you don't have to do this manually for each response. As i understood it anyway. Great post: Worth some gold! Thank you, Peter.

This is great thanks. I still have lots of questions too and I am planning to get a book on Word-press. If I come across some of the mystery answers I will be sure to send them to you. Yes Kyle and Carson have done a great job of providing us with a WP blog ready to go - it's the content and emails that I am so pleased with because copy-writing is a skill that takes time to develop and this gives us a wonderful opportunity to build a business from the beginning while learning the skills. Cheers Devan
