Using Clickbank Tracking Codes

Clickbank includes link tracking capabilities within their system, and it is now easier than ever to track your campaign performance and determine which ad groups, and even keywords, are your top performers.

When you create your links within the Clickbank marketplace, you will be given a form where you enter your Clickbank "nickname" and also an optional tracking ID. This tracking ID will allow you to create multiple links for the same product with different tracking URLs, allowing you to track the performance of different links.

Below is an example of the form:

As you can see, we have added the nickname "kylecarson", along with the Tracking ID "DOG1". In this case we were generating a link for "Dog Food Secrets" and here is what the link will look like:

http://kylecarson.dogsecrets.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=DOG1

Now, if you make a conversion with this link, it will show up within your Clickbank account Reporting -> Analytics section with the DOG1 id attached, thus allowing you to determine where your sales are coming from.

In the screen shot above you will see there is a "code" column. This will indicate which code (if any) produced the sale, and you can also see all the details associated with that particular transaction.

Knowing which links generated the sale can be highly beneficial because you can attach a unique tracking code to campaigns, ad groups, or even keywords to determine the effectiveness of your promotions and where you are making sales.

Here are some examples of tests you could perform:

Ad Conversion Test

Keyword 1 -> Ad 1 -> Landing Page 1
Keyword 1 -> Ad 2 -> Landing Page 1 (with different links)

Keyword Conversion Test

Keyword 1 -> Destination Landing Page 1
Keyword 2 -> Destination Landing Page 1 (with different tracking ID)

Landing Page Conversion Test

Ad Group 1 -> Ad 1 -> Landing Page 1
Ad Group 1 -> Ad 1 -> Landing Page 2 (with different tracking ID)

Your landing page (or if you are direct linking, your destination URL) are the only places in which you will update the tracking IDs. Based on the particular tests (as outlined above), you will be able to determine which ads are yielding the best ROI, the keywords that are converting the best, and which landing page is the most effective in converting a visitor into a customer.
