I will provide an example. This morning when I signed on to WA, I saw someone left me a comment on my niche site to a page where there is no mention of WA. The first sentence of their comment was:

“War games? Itis amazing the variety of niche’s people chose at Wealthy Affiliate University where I too am a member.”

This sentence could be construed as making fun of someone’s niche (or passion). I am saying "could be" - not saying that was the intention. In this case, it would be my late father's passion because that is my niche – my Dad and his works and continuing his legacy. Furthermore, as I said, mentioning Wealthy Affiliate in a comment where there is no mention of WA anywhere in the page or post is not relevant nor appropriate.

This particular WA member also mentioned that this is “not my cup of tea”. Statements like that are also not appropriate. If you are not comfortable for any reason leaving a comment on someone's website, then please don't. No one is forcing anyone to leave a comment. You will see people kindly asking for comments, but no one is forcing you. So, when visiting someone's website with the intention of leaving a comment, put your personal feelings aside and keep it positive and upbeat.

That being said, if you want to engage in ahealthy debate about a subject brought up in a page or post, that is fine and shows engagement and discussion – the key word here is “healthy”.

Excellent tutorial. I completely agree about not adding stuff about WA in the comment when the site has nothing to do with WA. I have had this happen.

Was once told..."Words can hurt...choose yours carefully!" Was sage advice then and is even more important now! Thanks for the reminder Steph!

Great subject. It might be hard sometimes for people to remember that the comments on the site are there for everyone to see. Even though you can modify or delete them it is still a consideration. Positive comments help people move forward. Thanks for bringing this to everyones attention.

I think you are right. Sometimes people do not realize or perhaps forget that comments can be seen by everyone and if you are not nice or behave inappropriate you are showing yourself to the world as being mean and rude.
