4. Concise Content Increases Engagement

Is there another reason to keep your blog posts as concise as possible, aside from the correlative fact which shows that a blog post receives fewer backlinks after a certain length? Because nobody wants to read more than they need, the simple answer is yes.

Medium looked at the relationship between average reading time and post length. They found that engagement drops for posts that take more than seven minutes to read.

According to The University of Chicago, most people read approximately 250 words per minute. It means that a blog post of 7 minutes would be about 1,750 words.

Does this mean that your blog posts shouldn't be longer or shorter?

No. Some topics will require more words than others. Others may be covered in less time. You can have posts of lengths 7000+ words, while others may cover around 1500-2000 words. Even though you may have a lot to cover in some topics, it's essential to ensure you don't add unnecessary clutter to your posts.

Hemingway is one tool that can assist with this. It can help you improve your writing by telling you about redundant words and fluff. This tool has proven to be easy to reduce your word count by at least 10%. It could be that your writing style seems complicated.

It is also worthwhile to get a colleague or friend to read your blog posts. Why? Because others are better at identifying when a point is unnecessary or only complicates the blog post! Ensure to do this for all blog posts.

Lily I agree with you whole heartily. That is why I find it hard to wrap my head around "AI". I like to create my own ideas even thou I haven't been doing much lately. I am hoping to get back at it
soon. Unless you can ask questions completely detailing your project you won't get the answers that will be helpful. You have to guide it to and through your content to get relevant subject matters. Since that becomes extremely involved, you just might ask yourself the same questions and answer them and keep on going.

I know this is a simple answer but it will keep you out of copywrite & Plagiarism territory. Just remember, One question gives the composite of millions of published articles. If you get caught with an AI answer and exposed and you integrity goes out the window.

Using AI to create areas that are important to your Niche and writing about those subjects in your own words can be extremely useful.

As I said earlier in this comment I agree with your tutorial 100%. How I got onto this subject is from talking about length of content & the first thing to come into my mind is people using AI to add content. It could be a trap if not used properly.

I found your tutorial very to the point and helpful.

You are most welcome Edward. it's definitely important to write all your articles in your own words. AI can be helpful in opening up ideas but it could be a slippery slope. 😉
Warm regards,

Thank you for sharing this tutorial, Lily.
I sometimes hit about 1100 words for some posts, nevertheless, when I got new ideas for that particular post, I will go back to that post and add a few more lines to it.
I tend to be paranoid when a new post only hits around 1100 words lol.

Do not fall into the trap of jumbling too many ideas in one post just to reach a target word count, clarity is very important. Every post should have a single target keyword and every word in the post should be easily linked to that keyword.

That said; longer posts, between 1000 and 2000 words, should be your goal.

Thank you for the valuable information about content length.
I write long and short forms; it depends.
It's essential to have a Table of Content for posts; readers can always skip to the exact information they need.

Absolutely and I often make sure that I answer the question at the very beginning. It often gets picked up for the snippet. Google likes this.
