What is White Hat SEO?


As spoken briefly of, white hat SEO refers to a span of strategies all in compliance to the general terms and conditions set in place by the respective search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, and each of other major engines).

Though most of the major practices almost correlate in both white hat and black hat SEO (such as backlinking and all of that), it’s the tactics implemented in each of them that get considered black or white hat. For example, in building backlinks for sites, you can go either of two ways:

  • The upright way (white hat SEO tactic) includes manually building backlinks, posting to high PR forums, submitting high-quality guest posts to authority sites, in addition to regularly coming up with great content that earn links naturally itself.
  • The crooked way (black hat SEO tactic) includes submitting a site to companies specifically created for generating backlinks, such as link farms as well as using link auto-generator tools or software.
