We automatically see the possibility for things going wrong when we try something (especially something new) so to counteract that, we need to provide our consciousness with tangible evidence that things could go very right. We need to give our minds visual input to lend credibility to our attempts to succeed.
Two steps to a more positive mindsetWhen you're trying to achieve something and you're struggling to believe you can do it, follow these steps:
- write three reasons that you're going to succeed, using positive language.
- Write one anticipated positive outcome, starting with the words, "I expect".
For example, if I was trying to set up the SEO for a new blog post that I've written and I don't have much experience with SEO, I could do this:
- I've just reviewed the WA training about SEO for the page. I'm going to follow its points, one by one. It was written by experts. I will become an expert by emulating them.
- I believe I've written a really good post, full of relevant keywords for my target audience.
- I've written another piece of content that I can promote on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. Even if the SEO is less-effective, I cannot fail because I have provided the search engines with more content to index and attract traffic, regardless of the SEO values I've provided.
I expect that with each attempt at SEO, I will become more experienced with what works and what doesn't and each post I work on gives me a new opportunity to get better.
What I've done here is provided my mind with four positive statements about what I'm trying to achieve. I'm creating an expectation of success.
On the next page I'll show you another example, this time about writing a new post.
